Title: Encounter with wind
Post by: flemke on August 06, 2016, 02:49:20 AM
I had my first experience dealing with wind when setting up my QS10.  I went on a 2 week trip to Glacier National park after attending the west coast rally.  I don't have any problems setting up by myself but when I was staying at a KOA in St. Mary MT the wind picked up overnight the day I was leaving.  I thought I could wait it out but it got worse and I had to leave.  I now have a bent bimini bar as the wind caught the tent from an angle as I tried to control it.  I bent it back somewhat but want to take it off to straighten it out.  Has anyone tried to strengthen them by putting something like a dowel or solid rod inside the tubing?  I was also thinking about using something like a couple of awning deflappers to pull the tent up and not putting so much pressure on the bars since being by myself, I have to do it from one side.

My sister's family has used wooden dowl rods in aluminum tent poles as a permanent fix for bent ones. If you can find the right size, it should work.
