Title: Newb
Post by: shovelhead on May 19, 2014, 03:23:38 PM
Hi new member from North Georgia.
Owner of a 21 RBS currently on a USA tour. So far everything is going fine.
I do have some mods in mind for the RBS.  One is a toughie.  Who decided
to put the fresh water intake on the right side of the rig????  >:D

Dave
Welcome!  Where are you traveling?  Any issues over long distances?  We're planning on taking our 21BHS to Arizona and Utah in September and am wondering how the camper handles the long distances.

As far as the water inlet, I've wondered the same thing.  I got a 50' hose and all's been well, but I still wonder why they did that.

Where in N GA? Karen and I are north of Blue Ridge, with a 21BHS.
I agree, this is the only thing I could fault them for.... but the other side is so crowded that you really couldn't put it anywhere else without changing the floorplan significantly. The water intake can't just go down a wall, it has to be inside a cabinet of some sort.

Fresh water fill on the wrong side? A bit inconvenient, yes, but a whole lot less exposed hose. Easy to disconnect the external hose when the temp drops. The FW tank is right over the axles so a filler on the other side would have to compete with the slide, fridge, etc. I'll keep it and get a longer hookup hose.

I live in Cumming, GA.  Not far from Blue Ridge.  Moved there from SW PA in 1992.  This stop at my sons is about the 3rd leg of 8000 miles (est) The camper has been fine except for the two rear vents leaking (small)  The one just outside the head is a different mech. It has a handle (Knob) to turn  thats seems stripped. It wont completely seal nor open and more.  The TV wall mount had a lanyard to pull and release the swing arm. That pin ejected out while on the road I still havent found it.  pretty small failures.  One other observation beside the water intake.  No spare ??? After paying upwards of 30K you'd expect a spare.  To tell the truth I just noticed the lack of a spare.

I ordered 96 sq ft of foam tile with all the zigs and zags hard for a non flooring guy to estimate.  Ordered a new digital heat only thermostat. I have the new shower head in my hand. I hope it helps with pressure.  I installed a Camco wall clock. 1st ride down the road it popped off and smashed the glass. Real glass I'd expected plastic?? Running without it but I dont trust those Command Strips anymore.

After the "rest stop"  here in Pittsburgh the last leg will be my "Civil War" tour. Gettysburg, Antitem, Fortress Monroe, Petersburg,  then home,  I've been to many Southern Civil War battlefields. Or as we (I've acclimated ) in the South say "The War of Northern Aggression"  Actually being raised very very close to the Mason Dixon line my family do have men on both side.... One reason I want to go to Petersburg is that my GG Grandfather was mortally wounded there and died at Fort Monroe.

The spare should be mounted under the camper, near the door.

Yeah, there's a surprising amount of space beneath the floor. The spare is almost invisible unless you really go looking for it.

I labored under the delusion that there was no spare on my 14DBS until I was under the trailer looking how to drain the fresh water tank and said "Hey. That looks just like a tire, over there."

Oh, and how can the North be the aggressor when the South fired the first shots at Sumpter ? Just sayin'.

My dealer was actually pricing out a spare for my 21BHS when I stumbled upon it.

I believe it is listed in the specs, so it should be there - if not, contact LivinLite - I think they owe you one.

Yep! Right there in the specs: http://www.livinlite.com/pdf/stdopts/cl21rbs.pdf

I'll have to look for the spare, I've never been under the trailer. Next dumb question ..... If you have a flat do you need to jack up the trailer just to get the spare?

As far as Northern aggression , you'd be surprised as to the number of native Southerners still feel that way.  Like I said I had  GG grandfathers on both sides. The Pennsylvanians were Union the Virginians (now WV)  we're Confederate.  I can remember playing banker with money from an old shoebox my Granny had... Confederate cash.  I guess she thought maybe the South would rise again.   I'm not knocking the South moved there 25  years ago by choice and wouldn't move back , mostly because of snow.  I hate snow.

You should be able to access the tire without jacking up the camper.

I can get under there with no problem.

On mine I can crawl on my hands and knees except where the tanks are.

If you check out my thread on picking up our 21BHS, you'll find pictures.

1) It was mounted valve stem up.

2) It was held up with a piece of bare aluminum stock, which seemed like a poor engineering choice.

Oh, and I'm told to change a tire, just roll the good tire on that side up on a wood block or leveling block and the flat will be suspended so you can change it. Never tried it personally, but sounds like it would work.

[/p][p]I personally can slide under my 14DBS on a crawler (from Harbor Freight, of course), as far in as my belly button.[/p][p]
[/p][p](Actually, not quite that far)

[/p]
Do you have the off-road package? It's not like you have to go under there that often, but lately I have been running wires, etc and it's been pretty handy to be able to crawl easily. Might be something to consider for those thinking about the off-road package.

[/p][p]Alls I know is, if I'm ever in a plane crash onto a cannibal infested island - hey, don't laugh, I saw it once on Gilligan's Island - anyhoo... as I was saying, said cannibals are going to develop a serious case of heart disease. I'm like a kobe beef. Beer fed, no exercise, daily geisha massage. [/p][p]
