Title: Replace Diamond Plating QS10.0
Post by: gmcspad13 on April 04, 2016, 03:47:56 PM
Hi All,

I'm looking into getting a used 2005 QS10.0 with a hole in the front diamond plating. I've gotten the seller to lower the price to cover the cost to repair the damage. I'm wondering if it would be better to try and replace the entire plate, or if this is possible. Looking forward to getting in to the QS community!

I will preface this by saying the picture is missing or the link is broken at the time of writing this. I think the repair choice will depend on what you expect. Any repair will need to be sealed really well and maintained over the years. Obviously replacing the entire panel would prevent this. Repairing the hole from the inside would give a smoother surface to repair, but the exterior will be easier to access. I personally am cheap and a DIY'er so I would most likely just use a patch panel of diamond plate. A few pop rivets and a nice helping of silicone and call it a day. Then in the future you can choose to repair the entire panel if you want. I personally plan to keep my 10.0 to the point a patch would not be a significant impact to its value.

Thanks. I noticed that about the picture. Trying to figure out how to get a picture to post. The trailer I'm looking at is a 2005 QS 10.0 for $3500. Any thoughts on the deal?

Yikes! That's just sad.  :(

I wasn't expecting to see such a bad boo-boo. If it was mine I'd be thinking about replacing it. Doing so would allow you to properly evaluate the condition behind the wound. If you are handy enough to do it yourself it might not cost much.

Yeah I'd replace after seeing that. Is 3500 the price after the damage discount? With a quick Google search I found a 2013 10.0 for 4993 so honestly I think you could talk him down. There isn't much that can go wrong with these though. I'd call LL to get a price quote on the panel and then a true dealer quote on the work. It may not be complex but I bet relaxing the panel is time consuming.
