Title: Jayco factory assembly video
Post by: drdave on February 21, 2016, 09:50:58 PM
Regardless of where you think the livinlite brand it going....it's still a completely different animal from standard RV construction.   A pretty shocking video.....especially the roof truss and insulation parts.

Interesting. Doesn't look like much fun for the assembly employees -- kind of a frantic pace. I notice many of the employees are Amish. When I visited the old Liv'Lite factory I was told there are lots of Amish workers in the RV industry that is centered on that area. There aren't enough Amish farms to support all the young people so many get jobs in the rv and furniture making industries. Horse-drawn buses pick them up at their rural homes and drive them into the factories.

6 hour completion time on a single unit seems crazy to me. Sure they have many items staged so its more like 6 hour assembly, but still how can you build a quality product at such a pace? Also thats not even accounting for the materials used.

Quality is not the goal, profit is.

We were visiting a RV dealer and one of the salesmen told my Wife & I travel trailers were not made to last.

Except Livin Lite!  Made to last....or at least they used to be.   :-X

Just watching that wore me out.... you would think, moving at that pace lends itself to QC issues.

The Mighty 11 was our first travel trailer purchase. After two trips out west and many regional camping trips, the 2010 CL 11 is still in great condition. Been thinking about getting a toy hauler & selling the Mighty 11, but the CL 11 is very reliable and making fine memories!

Question:  Does it seem like a good idea to any of you to hang onto these pre-Thor Livin Lites?  Personally, our hauler is great for certain things, but not everything, for instance, long distance travel in the winter.  Yet the thought of parting with it?  Doesn't seem like a good idea somehow.  Thoughts?[/font]

Will see, ATC is quoting a custom hauler for us right now!

Our 2010 CampLite 11 was one of the first 10 travel trailers built by LivinLite and will last a lifetime or more. Installed a larger wood counter top with TV & microwave and leave the 60X80 Full Queen bed down with memory foam mattress 100% of the time instead of using the dinette, but can easily put the Mighty 11 back to "original" condition in a day. You can use this Mighty 11 as a large refrigerator with the 13.5K AC unit, if needed! :)     Even purchased a Vintage style canopy and stored the original canopy inside out of the weather.

Just a few LivinLite memories:

...there are Airstreams on the road dating back to the 1960's and beyond:

[a href="http://www.airstreamclassifieds.com/airstream-trailer-search/Vintage-Airstream-Trailers-For-Sale/year/1936-1987"]http://www.airstreamclassifieds.com/airstream-trailer-search/Vintage-Airstream-Trailers-For-Sale/year/1936-1987[/a]

We were considering one, but having joined and participated in airforums.com, it appears many are not happy with the quality control on modern ones, and classics seem like they'd be a bit of an ongoing project.

Still, been to an Airstream rally with our Camplite, and they're good people with a quality niche product and we were made to feel welcome.

Maybe someday...

Airstream & Bowlus Road Chief are beautiful travel trailers! Have a prejudiced preference for aluminum creations!

amazing how much cheap/flimsy material they can slap together in 6 hours...sigh

i think the leftover aluminum shavings in my ll weighed more than some of the materials they were using
