Title: Season 2016 planning
Post by: kinyo on January 26, 2016, 11:40:04 AM
Good morning,

How many of you have started doing reservation for the 2016 season?

I just started this week. We now have 2 long trips planned.

In april, we will be leaving Montreal heading to New Orleans for a 2 weeks trip. Our stops will be: Cleveland Oh, Louisville KY, Memphis TN, New Orleans, Lafayette, Nashville and then Montreal.

And 2 more weeks in August with destination Myrtle Beach. This will include stops in Virginia Beach, Baltimore and NYC.

This will be done with our 10.0 and our 2 little girls. One 3 year old and the other one of 5 months.

Cant wait to get on the road and head for adventure!

Well, me and six other LLers have already booked at Acadia National Park for the 4th of July weekend. That weekend will fill up early and is now about half full.

We probably will do one other weeklong trip. Haven't figured where, maybe in the Adirondacks. If we do I will only book campsites for Friday and Saturday nights and maybe not even then in the Adirondacks. We have never had a problem staying anywhere without reservations Sun-Thursday nights (except for the 4th). Also since we are retired, not having a fixed itinerary is nice.

I agree with you David. I would prefer not to need to reserve but with 2 young children I feel more safe this way. Also, we like to camp in state parks. Camping there are always clean and the price is cheap. State parks in places near beaches like Myrtle and Virginia beach are always full in the summer. If i don't reserve I wont have any space. The other great think in reserving in advance is that I can choose the spot I want. I always try to find a spot in the shade. It get less hot in the 10.0 and the A/C does a better job in keeping the tent cool.

I'd like to take our 10.0 out Five times between February and October this year, although i'd be happy with Four. It's a matter of lining up my wife's schedule, mine, work and life. I prefer to go anytime except holidays, and prefer to skip Fridays & Saturdays too.  Hopefully we can find a couple 3 day, 2 night mini vacations. I've picked out some spots within 70 miles that are different experiences.

My brother and I are taking the QS mid February to the desert for 3 days. That'll be 3 days of doing mostly nothing but sitting, grilling, some short walking excursions, drinking and looking at the mountains in the day stars at night. I hope to do another desert trip in late March or April, maybe the beach. The wife and I do 8 days in the Eastern Sierras in June. If I can squeeze in another quick 2 day before mid-May, that'd be great. Then maybe a trip after Labor day before it gets cold in the local mountains.

We love to plan ahead as much as possible. We have a week at Death Valley at end of March, 3 days weekends over the 3 summer holidays at our granddaughters favorite camp ground in Northern CA and our 2 week trip in July for the regional rally at Fort Stevens. We'll stay at Crator Lake, Silver Springs, Ft. Stevens head up to Olymipia NP in Washington and then back through the Redwood National park in Northern CA on our return trip home. All reservations booked. Will try a couple of impromptu 3 day weekend trips through the summer.

we are planning trips for 2017 to San Diego and the parks in Utah already.

We are currently in the golf cart capitol of the U.S., also known as Florida. I feel kind of out of it since we don't have a golf cart, but there are plenty of places to rent, if we feel the need to conform!

We will wander around Central Florida until we return home for St. Patrick's Day. Louisville does St. Patrick's Day like no place else! We have reservations for most of our nights in Florida, but I have left some nights free for when we want to be wild and crazy and stay in a WalMart parking lot! I say "boondock". My husband says "no". So we Wallydock. What can I say?

We will be home for a few weeks before we go to Virginia for the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival, followed by a trip through Shenandoah National Park. We will only be home for a few weeks before we will leave again for our REALLY big trip.

We will travel along the East Coast, stopping on the Jersey Shore. I was a Jersey Shore girl, but nothing like the tv show! Then on to Maine to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. From there, we travel across the top of the United States, enjoying some national parks, until we get to the Pacific NW Livin Lite Regional Rally. Yay!

After that, we head north into Washington to visit our son, daughter-in-law and grand granddaughter, with some time spent in Olympia National Park. Then we head back across the top of the U.S., arriving in Elkhart, IN on Sept 10 for the IRV2 International Rally. I will put more info about this in another thread later.

Back home for a few weeks, then we are going to head south, following the Mississippi River to eventually head west to go to Arizona for January 2017.

I start planning as soon as the reservations open up. A lot of the state sites I go to sell out the good spots early. The rest of my planning revolves around race schedules for the different series. Again a lot of times the tickets/camping have to be purchased early (Many tracks have a time period where if you had the sight last season you have a chance to get the same spot this season but it is a limited time)

I would love to just get in and go but I usually have my entire season planned out by the end of Feb.

We've reserved specific sites we like right on the Great Lakes in state parks we enjoy for a long trip in May. The lakefront sites fill up almost as soon as they open up for reservations 6 months in advance. On our trip west in July-August we'll do a combination of reservations and drop-in, depending on the park/campground. Sounds like we could see Leslie as we head across the top the U.S. to the regional rally in July. We'll do some other short trips too, but nothing planned yet.

We'll be at the regional rally in July at Fort Stevens in Oregon. We're also trying to take the camper out at least once each month around our great state of Washington. We've did Deception Pass State Park in January and are planning to do Lake Ozette on the Olympic National Park coast next weekend. We also want to get to:
> Palouse Falls State Park.
> Sun Lakes SP.
> Steamboat Rock SP.
> Cape Disappointment SP.
> Pacific Beach SP.
> North Cascades National Park (haven't been up there in about 5 years).

Dream List:
> Whistler
> Banff
