Title: Driveway Camping on Jan1st & 2nd in the snow...
Post by: peislander on January 03, 2016, 07:21:41 PM
We had some houseguests arrive on Jan 1st for a couple of days. They slept in our bed and my wife & I retreated to our small but mighty Camplite 11FDB parked in the driveway. With a few inches of snow on the ground & more on the trailer roof I expected it to be uncomfortable. With shore power available we cranked up a small electric fan/heater to warm the cabin up. With the trailer's cabin being small (but mighty) it made it relatively easy for the cheap little heater to keep the trailer reasonably warm. It was about 65-degrees F inside when we went to bed -- below freezing outside. The heater kept it about that temperature all night. Worked out very well. Surprisingly there wasn't noticeable condensation on walls or ceiling in the morning. The heater must have had something to do with that.  The bare aluminum floor was of course very cold but we had one 2'x2' carpet tile to use as a mat to stand on when getting dressed. There was some condensation on the aluminum floor in the area behind the heater. (The heater with its fan is very directional). The trailer had been winterized so we had no plumbing but it is a 40-foot walk from the trailer to our home's back door & the adjacent washroom.

We won't hesitate to use the camper as a spare bedroom in the future -- no matter the weather.

Cheap. Ours has 1500w output.

Good Report!

We use a 1500W ceramic heater all the time when needed. Also a 110V air dryer in our mighty 11.

Well, thinking about last winter, I think there might be times when I'd hesitate to do some driveway camping.  :(  The pic below was taken February, 2015, just a few feet away from where the trailer is now parked. Sixteen feet of record-breaking snowfall on Prince Edward Island last winter! Yikes! (Some winters we have hardly any snow).
