Title: Integrated brake controller?
Post by: pinstriper on November 17, 2015, 05:50:27 AM
I am considering upgrading my weekend play truck from a Ranger to a full size pickup. Some come with electric brake controllers built in.

How do these compare to, say, a Prodigy proportional controller?

My new F-150 has the integrated brake controller but I haven't gone anywhere with the camper since I got the truck so I can't tell you how it does on the road (little bit of around the neighborhood stuff but no trips).  I suspect that from a "just braking" standpoint it will be no better or worse then a Prodigy. From a convenience standpoint it also a draw since my Prodigy was always installed and ready to use.  The Integrated does have the nice feature that it uses the display of the truck to confirm hook up and a few other message type things, plus you can configure it to save different trailer configurations.  I'm not sure if that changes how it behaves in a braking situation or not though.  So there you go, I've taken up 2 minutes of your valuable time and given mostly no useful information!

From this site it looks like the integrated controller is proportional.

Also, posts on the f-150 forum have good things to say about features and usefulness of the integrated one. Might vary by year?

Every artist has their True Medium.

I am looking at Ford, Chevy, and Dodge in the 2010 or so vintage. Nice enough to be in, not so nice O worry about it in parking lots or a logging road gates during hunting season.

Not sure about the era thing but the 2015 OEM IBC we installed in the F-150 works every bit as good for us as the P3 we sold. No bumping it around as it's in the dash secure.
