Title: A/C
Post by: popup2012 on November 13, 2015, 11:29:06 PM
I live in TX and wonder how the smaller A/C would work for me in a 16 TBS. Should I get the 13.5K BTU?

We have a 13.5K AC in the CampLite 11, sometimes it's overkill, but when it's above 90F, humid, and the camper is in the Sun, appreciate having the large unit!

If you want to be cool with an interior temp at 70 in the middle of a 95 degree day with full sun, then get the biggest a/c possible. But is that why we go camping- to sit inside on a blistering day. I would rather be: lounging in the shade near the pool, hanging out in a palapa bar with a cold one in hand, or most anything else than sitting inside my camper.

Even the 9,200 btu unit which I have on my 16TBS will keep it at 80 in the middle of a scorching day which because the humidity is low inside is not uncomfortable. But late afternoon it is down to 75 and at night 70. You will actually be more comfortable at night with the smaller unit because it will run longer and keep the humidity down.

David[/quote]This is pretty much my experience with our side mount A/C too. It does a little better than 80 (72 IIRC) in direct sunlight but very similar results. Our is with no slideout so there is a difference.

We have no problem being comfortable in our 16TBS with the 9.2K unit (Coleman Mach Polar Cub). I really object to the noise, however. From other posts, it seems noisy AC is endemic to RVs, but it really bugs me a lot. Ours has a very noisy fan on the high speed and an obscenely noisy compressor that resonates a booming sound inside and is obnoxious outside. I have no comparison to the 13.5K noise, so I can't help you make a choice based on noise. I just know that for the most part, we use the ceiling vent fans and fans inside to keep us comfortable in all but the hottest outside temps and then our 9.2K does the job.

Our 13.5K is loud, too.

We have the 13.5 in our 21RBS...it would maintain a low 80's inside temp. on a 95 degree sunny day...but it is LOUD.
