Title: 28BHS Recommendations
Post by: cl21bhs on November 02, 2015, 11:15:08 PM
I am considering purchasing a 2015 28BHS, does anyone have one that can provide recommendations etc. I currently own a 21BHS and previously a 16DB so I am very familiar with camplites, we just love them.

Thanks for the thoughts.
Steve

Pirdytj owns one up in Oregon. You might private message him.

If that's what you want, then get it while you can because they just discontinued it:

"Dealer stock only"

Dropping a bunch of models out of the Camplite line. Wonder if they are just moving them to the Bearcat brand.

Of course it also seems silly to add wood cabinets to an all aluminum trailer  :'(

Steve, not to discourage you but after an Internet search there are very few of the 28s out there. I found 1 in Maryland and 1 with a pending sale in Florida. Might be a tough find with only dealer inventory available.  :-[

I think there's only two or three that showed up here on the forum. Rather than "update" them it made more sense to just let it go.

Yes, we purchased one over Labor Day this year. Loving the space for our family of 5. Annoyed by the wheel well leaks but I recently resolved those with Vulkum. Haven't tested it all yet but should be a big improvement.
We do have a crew cab long bed Duramax diesel, weight distribution hitch, and anti sway bar. No complaints on the towing quality even though I'm about to put new shocks and lift kit components on my truck.

How do you apply the Vulkum sealant to the wheel wells? Do you have to crawl under the trailer and apply while lying on your back, or do you have to put it up on a lift? Or can you take care of it from inside the camper?

I then sealed every seam that was pieces of metal coming together (there is one long edge that is bent metal - I didn't worry about it). The biggest gap was between the wheel wells and the siding of the camper (outside edge), which happens to be the hardest to get to. However, I think the greatest leaks were happening where the wheel well metals attach to the flooring & linoleum.

Also of note, we're having a problem with water coming in when the slideout is closed: Water runs along the top of the slideout and drips in. It appears to be that the seal between the slideout and exterior fiberglass are not making contact - there is about a 1" gap! I need to purchase a bigger seal / gasket to make a better watertight seam.

I wonder if the slide out "in" position is adjusted correctly? A once inch gap from the installed seal is significant and perhaps the stop mechanism is not shutting the motors down early? Our slide out has a large gap along the bottom when closed from a poor seal design, but the sides and top are fine.

Could someone post a photo of the 28BHS's bed?
Do you have to have an air mattress for it when it folds out?
