Title: KOA
Post by: dp on August 16, 2015, 06:08:11 PM
Is there other camp grounds that are very nice. KOA is OK but seen one, seen them all mostly. Is there another chain that is very nice. I know I am missing some.

There are some very nice private campgrounds as well as government parks.  Air-conditioned bath houses are less common in those, but depending on the location that isn't necessarily a big deal.  I've never stayed at a Jellystone Park location, but they look nice as well.  There are also a lot of KOA facilities that are now Good Sam parks, but if you're looking for something different, those are just rebranded KOAs.

I have been very impressed with two county parks I have stayed at.

Like hotels, there is too much variation/inconsistencies between brands. My favorite campgrounds are all unbranded, except for several National Park sites.

A few of the states in the southern US have excellent state parks. GA and AL come to mind.

+10 To below. The features that make a campground great for you may be much different than the features that make one great to me.

What makes a campground "nice" to you? Swimming pool, playground, social center are for the most part provided by commercial campgrounds like KOA. Quiet, surrounded by trees, picnic table, nice fire pit, etc are more the province of public campgrounds like USFS, NPS and state parks.
