Title: Hitch latch difficult to connect.
Post by: peislander on July 19, 2015, 11:23:43 AM
Perhaps some lubrication is needed? Although it is messy, grease may be the ticket.

[font size="3"]Sometimes if the coupler seats with the ball positioned toward the rear of the coupler the latch can be hard to engage. When hitching I try to position the trailer so the coupler is just slightly offset to the rear of the TV (ball is slightly forward). This ensures the ball will be fully forward in the coupler and away from the latch. Easier to do than to describe.

Hi Chris, at times it can be a pain and even with WD-40 sometimes I have to bounce it around a little to get it in the exact spot for the latch to go down. Better safe than sorry I guess. Also it helps if the tow V and the trailer are on level ground when you start. I keep mine in the garage and the driveway is on a slant so my car never lines up right. Just a thought.

[p]When the camping trailer tongue is resting on the ball hitch and you cannot latch, push back on the camper and push toward the tow vehicle and this will likely result in you closing the latch. I have used this method on my camper and utility trailer as well. I also use Vaseline to grease the ball hitch and cover with a sock when not in use.[/p]
