Title: Camping in Northern NM
Post by: swbc150 on June 30, 2015, 09:10:09 PM
[p]Just got back from a week long Campout in Northern New Mexico, near where the Cumbres/Toltec Railroad Train runs.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Other than the Bugs the trip was excellent. Flyfishing wasn't so good but in that case the 4wheelers got the workout.[/p][p]
[/p][p]We rode over to the midpoint stop at Osier Colorado for the Cumbres/Toltec train, round trip for that 4wheeler ride (atv's) was 45 miles. Then rode some of the side trails during the rest of the week. Saw mostly Mule Deer, about 20 Wild Turkeys and only some sign of Elk.(elevation riding was in the 10,000ft range)[/p][p]
[/p][p]Our Campsite was at 8300ft elevation and next to the Rio de Los Pino's River.[/p][p]

Sounds like a good time. I have heard about that train from other people who took it. Must be good.

Great pics swbc150! Wow such a great place for hiking or four-wheeling. I'll have to add the area to my bucket list. :)

[/p][p]When I get back I'll post up the driving instructions on how to find Rio de Los Pino's as it is not a area you can find easy. Will also give suggestions on the Cumbres/Toltec train by riding it from the Antonito, CO Station to Chama, NM and have your campsite along the Rio de Los Pino's which is about 14 miles from Antonito, CO.
