Title: Why it's nice to keep it simple.

Been checking out and reading up on the Jayco swift trailer. It might be a great trailer I don't know. But just read the comments at the bottom of this review. Makes me feel better about my simple quicksilver camper. The entire comment section seems like it's almost all negative.

I was seriously considering one of the smaller Jayco SLX trailers, mostly due to the low cost and nice floor plans.  However, after going to see one at the dealer, I quickly changed my mind.  The one I looked at was new but smelled like wet cardboard and pieces of the interior were already falling apart.

The Camplite I eventually bought was a little smaller and more expensive but it is not likely to be ready for the scrap heap in 5 years like most other brands.

After having rented 2 trailers before making the decision to buy - a FunFinder and an R-Pod, we came to the conclusion that:

1) One axel sucks, even for very light trailers
2) Wet bathrooms suck, if you actually have to use them. Worse than airplane crappers.
3) After one season of rentals they were both in sad shape, and we knew what they'd be like in 2-3 years of our use.

Which is not to say there weren't attractive features in terms of storage or floorplan or whatnot, particularly with the R-Pod. But...

I do fear that LL's price point, but lacking the cache of Airstream, may be fatal in the long term for the brand.

People who know the value of a steel and stick travel trailer vs an all-aluminum trailer know that LL trailers are worth the extra $$. Now they have to see if they have that much in their account...

I have been shopping for a while. My QS was actually slightly cheaper than a base model traditional pop up.

There were no base models anywhere. Everything was loaded with options and (dead) weight. Because of the CAD/USD exchange rate, it would have cost me more to order a base model and I would have to wait 6 to 8 weeks for delivery. A stock model, though cheaper, would have required many renovations and $$$$$ to get it under 1000 lbs.

QS saved me time and money.
