Title: One final bang & clang spot to eliminate, that loose pin
Post by: ron on May 25, 2015, 01:38:09 AM
[p]I have removed most of my noise, and it is much quieter back there. [/p][p]
[/p][p]I have one final spot.  My 2" square hitch bar slides into the Honda Ridgeline receiver.  I think this has a 1/2" hole  [ 32/64" ]and the pin that goes thru this to hold it in the receiver is probably 28/64" to 30/64".  There is some slop in this connection.   I wish the pin was tighter at 31/64".   [/p][p]
[/p][p]I may be getting some clanging here, but I am not sure.  My Stow Away hitch tightener may not allow any movement in this sloppy pin, but I would like to eliminate this slop anyways. [/p][p]
[/p][p]Note it could be a 5/8" hole with matching pin, but BOTTOM line, the pin is not as tight as I would like for it to be. [/p][p]
[/p][p][strong][em]Are there replacement pins made that will provide a tighter fit than this one I currently have?[/em][/strong] [/p][p]
[/p][p]Many thanks.  I looked at a good bit on Amazon, and made no headway towards a solution.  [/p]

This is soooooo familiar. Almost like someone brought up this idea before, around May 6, 2015 at 7:25pm.

If you have room in your receiver you can drill another hole in the hitch bar that will be tighter. I was able to drill that hole about 1" forward of the existing hole which lets the bar go forward another 1" so that it sticks out less.

I think it is 5/8" and I had to drill successive holes to get it to 1/2". Then I used a Dremel tool to carefully widen it so that the pin just slips in. It is much snugger than the original hole.

I was wondering if using some heat shrink tubing might thicken up the pin and also provide some sound deading. Might not last but easy to install and cheap enough to be replace occasionally. May have to give it a shot.

be glad your tow vehicle didnt come with a 2.5" receiver and the adapter bushing.  double the clanking pleasure!
