We stopped in Flagstaff this morning to pick up a few groceries at Wally World. The headwinds have just been brutal again today. Supposedly the winds will die down tomorrow, which is good timing as we plan to camp near the Grand Canyon for 2 days.

We are at Williams KOA which is about 40 miles from the Canyon. We're headed there in about an hour. It got really cold here last night, 23°. The bathroom water lines froze up. The kitchen seems fine. Supposed to hit 60° today, I'll drain the low points tonight.

I have camped in my 21-BHS in temps down to 19 degrees overnight. I kept the trailer warm all night using the propane furnace. The temp the next day was in the 50's. I had no problems. I am not sure that you need to drain.

I don't mess around with frozen pipes. Pex is pretty good but a frozen shower trap could get messy. I'd spill some antifreeze down there if you could. The fresh water tank drain spigot if there's water there too.[/p][p]

If you run hot water from the kitchen sink using the water pump a few times a night it will exercise the entire water system, even drawing FW tank and hot water through the longest exposed shower lines. Just enough to feel hot water coming from the kitchen tap, may a quart or so. Something to do when you wake up at night    . Of course you can also run some water through the shower, but the kitchen hot tap should do it. The shower hot and cold lines are touching as they run across the underneath as you can see i the drawing.

Charlie, the only water moving this morning was at the kitchen sink, the cold side. Tonight my plan is to do want I did last night - removing the water hook up, but also drain the low points this time. That means getting up and running water won't be possible. Once this trip is over, I'm going to insulate all of the exposed water lines underneath. This camper should be able to handle 8 hours of freezing temps?!

Thanks for the schematics, I'll look them over tonight. We've been hiking the Grand Canyon all day and had a blast, man that place gets crowded!

No floor insulation, we have several area rugs over the faux wood floor.

We kept it very warm inside, probably 76° at least.

Yes disconnected city water and drained hose.

The gas water heater stayed on.

Did not leave the lower cabinet doors open... will do that tonight.

The kitchen water, cold side that was working was from the water pump. But that makes sense, it comes straight up from the fresh tank, no exposed lines.

Fresh tank was over 3/4... It did not freeze.

The small diameter red and blue lines that were exposed under the bathroom area, froze. On my unit most of those will be easy to wrap. There may be some areas where they're hidden, but I can clearly see long sections that aren't.

The good news is, it all thawed with no damage.

I mean Seattle is nice and all, but Oregon really knows how to knock it out of the ballpark with its stunning coastline.    Need ideas on what to see out here in the Pacific NW?  I suggest stopping by Mt. St. Helens.  It's not everyday you get to visit an active volcano and even though it erupted over 30 years ago, the scope of devastation is still mind-blowing.  

The San Juans are among my favorites.  Oh! ... and the Snoqualmie pass, featuring Mt. Rainier, rivals Banff in beauty any day!  

Have a great trip!!  And I'm anxious to hear how you like your trailer after spending that many weeks in it.  [/font]

Where did you hike at the Canyon?  We hiked the Bright Angel Trail down to the 3 mile mark.  Incredible experience.  We also hiked the entire rim trail, the side hikes including some of the Kaibob trail, as well as some of the walkways through the other areas of the park.  If you get a chance, grab a meal at the Bright Angel Restaurant.  Great meals and great view.  

You're making me want to go back! We really want to take the Bright Angel down to the 4.5 mile point.  Enjoy!
