Radio sound system

Poor radio reception and sound. I started digging into antenna wiring. Over the refrigerator the antenna wire coupling was loose. The antenna amp connection system over the TV, I found the radio was plugged into center connection instead of TV2. That fixed the receiving issue. I  unscrewed and dropped every speaker and found the backs full of loose insulation, and metal flakes. Used a vacuum and small acid brush to remove it all from around the speaker cone. I might put in better 5 1/4 shallow well speakers, and hook up a sound bar for watching TV.

i replaced the stock speakers (man those things were terrible) with polk 5 1/4s (already had one set leftover from an upgrade on our rzr so i just picked up a second set).  since they weren't shallow mount i added spacer rings.  cheap way to be able to use a standard frame and you get the added bonus of better sound (although with a 5 1/4 it would be hard to notice the difference between a standard and shallow mount).  i havent noticed the extra inch ever getting in the way...really not even noticeable

Nice... I have to check out the Polk, they make some nice audio equipment. I hadn't thought of the speaker extenders, didn't see them listed on Crutchfield Audio when I was looking around. They do make smaller sound bars these days. We are buying a larger flat screen to put on the sink counter with sound bar for evening TV watching. It should help drown out the A/C fan noise, those fans are pretty noisy.

I have always liked polks and as an added bonus these are marine grade...just in case.

I couldn't find the rings on Crutchfield either, so I went to amazon

Also, did you use the same speakers for the two outside?

yep...have also use the 6.5" version in the rzr and they regularly get wet and ave never had a problem.

unfortunately my vrv didnt come with the external speakers but i wouldnt hesitate to use the polks based on my experience on the rzr.

the polks are pretty bright (i have them amped) and being a 5.25" speaker they dont have alot of bass. it is enough for low to moderate levels but if you like to  turn it up you will want a separate sub.

polk isnt known for their subs but i decided to give one a try and have been really pleased with its performance.

What I did with Infinity speakers is in this thread. They fit with no mods/adapters in the stock locations.
