I just pulled one out, it appears a simple shim won't do much.   The window part hits directly on the top of the frame part so shimming it will simply prevent the window part from turning.  It really needs to be shimmed and offset towards the window about the width of the screw holding it in. Unfortunately that means I'd have to drill new screw holes right next to the existing ones.  Any thoughts?  Conceivably I could recreate the entire frame part in any configuration I want but the plastic I use gets a bit droopy when the temperatures get high.  I had a part in my car once that drooped during the summer, didn't melt but it was soft.

Mitch,
Are you sure it won't work? The red part has a slight hook to it and, along with the wedge part of the black piece, should pull the window in and compress the gasket. It is designed to put some compression force on the gasket. If you look at my third picture, which is unlocked and uncompressed, it looks like it might show the same hit point as yours without the shim.

I agree with Charlie.  I think the shim will work and the "ramp" will pull it in.  Mine look exactly the same as Mitch's.

[p]Mitch,
As the above posters have said "it should be a tight fit" Compare it with the other windows?? If you do actually need to make a mechanical adjustment:
It appears that you need to go both up and out, says Mr. obvious. Here's one possible solution using aluminum bar stock. I'm not going into too much detail but the desired raise appears to be 3/8 to 1/2 inch. A short length of 1/4 and 1/8 x 1 in. bar stock, used in combination, should put you in the ballpark. Drill the new holes as "through holes" in the shim block, but use shorter screws that won't touch the sill plate, as you don't want a bunch of extra holes in the sill, just in case you have to redo the shim block several times, to get it spot on.

Here's my prototype, I'll go drill some holes in it and hopefully it'll work as you guys suggest.  I'll let you know in a bit.

Well what do you know, it worked as designed.  If it doesn't melt in the summer heat it's a winner.

[p]OOOoooo, I missed the part about the 3D printer. [/p][p]
[/p][p]Addendum: Come to think of it, I do have a 3D printer of early design, out in the barn, it's called a vertical milling machine. The only drawback is that I can't go have lunch while the part is in process.  [/p]

Very cool.  Nice work.  Sell those back to LivinLite.

mitch

I'll sell them to folks on this board if they really want. $2 each sound fair? plus whatever the post office charges to get them to you.

That's more than fair.  I'd like to see the factory solve this problem but I also want windows that latch.  I'll PM you with address, payment, etc.  Thanks!!
Super job. If you are worried about the heat install a Fantastic fan with a thermostat and crack a window. We had to do that in ours to get past the Nevada heat in summer. Got tired of reattaching command strip hangers every time we used our camper.

Hey guys!!

Passed this to our head of production to see what the fix is. I copied quite a few pictures from this thread to show them :-)

Will let you know what I hear!
I notified Jack Filley by telephone at LL in June 2014.

From my notes: Jack also noted my comments on the mis-adjusted window latches and will pass them on to production. Apparently they completely assemble each window in the factory. I thought they would come assembled and just had to be mounted.
That is just too cool, even including the knurled anti-skid surface. Obviously some prior experience showing here. Good job, Mitch.
