Merlin, a couple basic questions:

- Where do you normally buy your crimp-type heat-shrink connectors?  I was looking on Amazon but curious if best to get them at say Home Depot in smaller quantities...  Also, what gauge did you end up using?  Do you use just a pair of pliers to crimp or the special crimping tool?  Sorry for the basic questions, I've not used these before and you may a good point about why they should be used.

- Do you use a heat gun for the heat-shrink connectors or a small torch?  I don't own a heat gun and I've used a very small torch in the past on other heat shrinking tubes...but it seems like it might be too compact of a space to try that.  Curious if you have suggestions.

- Also, I'm thinking about getting this [a href=""]Alpine Amp[/a] for these [a href="http://www.amazon.com/Hertz-ECX-165-5-Coaxial-Speakers/dp/B00B5GK05I?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00"]Hertz Speakers[/a] I just ordered.  I heard the Hertz speakers in a car audio store once and fell in love...  I've been a fan of Alpine in the past.  Let me know if you have any reasons to steer away from it.

Thank you...

Go to the nearest Napa.

No, wait. Forget that.

Go to the nearest Harbor Freight.

Read the instructions on the heat shrink. The ones I got just require a lighter. ymmv

The interior speakers are only connected to the radio and the DVD player. I would have to take off the back access panel off of the main stereo unit and split the audio cables and attach them into the AUX connection in order to get the TV sound over the interior speakers. We should have had the dealer do this the last time that we had the trailer in, because I don't have the right screwdriver to get that back panel off. Dusty - Does your TV sound play over the ceiling speakers?
Our new 2016 16 DBS with the Jensen system would not play the sound from the TV through the ceiling speakers.  However, it would play the FM, DVD, BLUETOOTH.  It didn't make sense.  Took off the cabinet azdel to exposed the back of the Jensen.  RCA cables from the TV were hooked up to the video and audio input of the Jensen.  Checked the TV connections.  The audio from the Jensen was hooked up to the audio input of the TV (wrong).  Simply switched the connections on the TV to audio output and now have the sound from the TV coming through the ceiling speakers using the AUX mode on the Jensen.  We adjust the TV sound a little higher and the Jensen sound doesn't have to be set so high.  It works great.

So if there are "no TV sound through ceiling speaker" issues, check the TV connections first.

Glad that you got yours working. I think our problem is that our TV doesn't have "audio-out" on the back of it. It's a new Samsung LED TV so I can only surmise that Samsung isn't manufacturing TV's with audio-out areas on the back anymore. Since that's the case with mine, I can't run cables from the back of the TV to the AUX spots on the back of the Jensen receiver. Therefore, the only thing I could do is buy a devise like Dusty's that sends Bluetooth signal from the TV to the Jensen unit. I believe that the devices like Dusty's plug into a USB plug on the back of the TV, but I'll have to look into it further.

I'll actually be using a toslink/optical output on the back of the tv.  If you post a pic of the back of your TV, I can try and assist.  I'm not great at mechanical stuff (yet), but this type of stuff I'm decent with...

Your Samsung TV may be like ours and have a headphone jack (mini stereo plug) on the back that can be used for audio out. If you run a cable from that to the L-R RCA jacks "in" on the back of the Jensen, you'll have TV sound through the ceiling.

[/quote]I use Raychem heat-shrink Duraseal butt splices in various sizes for pretty much all electrical connections. I get them at the Home Depot in packages of 25. For the audio system, I used 14-16 AWG. I'm a big fan of these because they are easy to use, reliable, durable, and waterproof after being shrunk.

To shrink them, or any heat-shrink tubing, I use a mini-heat gun. One of the best $20 I ever spent for electrical work. After years of losing my eyebrows and scorching things with torches, matches, lighters, and anything else that would burn while trying to shrink connectors, I now exclusively use a heat gun. Fast, easy, and safe in tight places. Below is one example from Amazon, but the Home Depot has them in the mini-size too.

There is a special crimping tool for the connectors that makes it real easy to get a good crimp. Below is a multi-tool that crimps and strips and cuts. I couldn't find one without all the connectors included too and those included are not heat-shrink. So use this as an example, not necessarily the one to get!

The Hertz speakers are great. I couldn't click on the link to the Alpine amp, so I can't offer any thoughts on that. Alpine makes good stuff, but I don't know if that one will integrate easily with the Jensen radio in the camper like my Clarion did.

Merlin: This is amazingly helpful and exactly what I was hoping to learn.  Thank you.

Here is the alpine amp again. Hopefully this link works.

Well, that's a bummer. It's a more versatile amp than I have.  (rofl)  Seriously though, it looks like it will be perfect for the job. Good power without a lot of heat, will connect up fine to the Jensen radio, and will supply 45 watts per channel at 4 ohms to your 4 ohm Hertz speakers. Nice find. I don't know where the factory radio is in the 21, but in the 16TBS that amp would fit great in the space below it. If you want all the details and specs and to take a look at the owner's manual before ordering, Crutchfield is a master at providing everything up front. In fact, I often pay a bit more and buy from Crutchfield for audio because they are so helpful in installation and technical advice. I only wish I had found that Alpine a few months ago.

Thank you for taking a look at it. It's good to hear I made a decent choice.

The Jensen is up by a cabinet over the sink. I believe it should fit in there ok.

Hello,

I am struggling with the sound quality as well but have thought out a very basic solution with low costs and easy installation.

Recently I purchased a bluetooth portable speaker. The UE BOOM 2, got it from the Apple store, great sound! We camp in the mountains where the weather constantly changes, if it gets snowed on or rained on while outside not a big deal.

Now I am going to purchase a bluetooth transmitter and simply plug this into the audio in on the back of the stereo. The cable can simply be run up though the countertop hole and the transmitter can be easily accessed for re-charging. I have allot of music c.d.'s that I have not installed on i Tunes yet, now I can possibly play them as usual and have the bluetooth speaker outside or inside. I am sure I can select the standard speakers to off in the stereos setup menu. That little speaker sounds much better in the trailer than those awful stock speakers.

I just have to select and order a transmitter. Too many to choose from.

What do you all think to this idea?

I picked up a King RV Speaker and Light.  I hooked it up and cannot get it to pair with the Jensen Radio via Bluetooth.  I am able to pair it to my iPhone so I know the Speaker/Light works but no success with pairing with the Jensen Radio.  Anyone had success doing this.  Email sent to King Media asking for their advice but a holiday weekend and such.

Thanks in Advance,

Chuck

charleschapman

No luck pairing anything yet to the Jensen unit.  It is known to have iPhone pairing issues.  I will try the wife's android phone next.

Do you have either the Quick Reference Guide or the Owner's Manual for the Jensen? If not, I can copy the BT instructions and post them.
