It's a little blurry, but here's a picture of the slit in the tire:

I removed the tires, and the slit goes under the tread about 3/4" along the full length of the slit.  There were no belts visible.  It may have been sliced on the road, however I was a bit disturbed to see 1/4" x 1/4" x about 1/8" deep pieces of tread missing from other areas of the tire and several smaller slits on the other tires.  In any case all tires are now loaded in my truck and I have an appointment for new tires tomorrow morning.

I dunno... "Road Hazard" wouldn't be my first thought for widespread damage like that.  I mean, you'd probably remember running over something like a Ninja parade.

Yesterday I purchased 4 new Carlisle RH Radial tires.  The difference between the new tires and the original is huge:

[/quote][p]Funny, yesterday I bought a new set of tires too. Those new Carlisles had me do more due diligence than I normally would. Especially at the low price of them and the new design. I went with my originally intended tires the Maxxis M8008 from Discount Tire Direct. I feel there has been great improvements in the Carlisles too! 87 MPH speed rating on the new Carlisles. That's a fast tow![/p][p]
[/p][p]
[/p][p]As an OT, I also ordered new winter shoes and rims for the new F-150. Altimax Arctics with alloy wheels also from Discount Tire Direct. A $1400 tire day....ridiculous....[/p][p]
[/p][p]Just wanted to add a plug for Discount Tires Direct. The truck tires and rims weren't in stock at the OH location. This meant they would be delayed a couple days in shipping from AZ instead. Got a call from an 800 number (normally would never answer such a call). It was them making sure this was acceptable. Funny thing is they never promised me a faster delivery to begin with. I thought this was great customer service...

I was VERY impressed with Discount Tire's service. I never purchased from them before, but I will definitely do so again.

We are camping for the weekend, and it is the first time I towed the camper with the new Carlisle tires. I am very surprised how much of a difference these tires make. The camper pulled fine before, but now it is even better. In fact, over familiar stretches of road, I'm used to hearing the transmission downshift when going up some hills, but with these tires, no downshifting occurs. Acceleration is better and you really don't feel the trailer back there. Very satisfied so far.

[p]This is great news. I was hoping for decreased rolling resistance with the new tires. Sounds like it is not empty promises going to a radial. Now I just need to get my trailer back from the wife who is using it to sleep closer to her work until Saturday so I can install my new ones that arrived today.

2 Day delivery from Discount Direct. OH to MA. Darn good.[/p][p]

Adding the Andersen No Sway has also made further improvement on top of this. Changing out to dual GC2's and loading up the front of the trailer has made a difference even further.

On to installing 360W of solar now on the roof in preparation for our month long trip to the desert..
