Exterior Touch Up Paint

Pulled a bone-head move yesterday - while leveling my 16TBS I pushed a little too hard, slid off the leveling blocks, and slammed into the gutter at the side of the house.  Back of trailer now has dents in the shape of the gutter end cap and numerous scratches down to the metal.  
 
I went in search of exterior touch up paint, and because it was a bit of an odyssey, thought I would post the info I learned here.  First place to start is with Don @ LL.  LL does not sell touch up paint, but Don can give you the color ID number for your paint scheme.  Don referrred me to Rollie Williams Paint Spot (574) 264-3174 which I assume is the vendor LL uses for painting.  Ask to speak with someone in the automotive department.  I dealt with Lee who was very helpful.

From there, you have two choices.  You can order direct from Rollie Williams.  The minimum order is 1 pint and they will send it out to you via FedEx Ground.  My cost was $38.63 for the paint and $29.65 for shipping.  My color was silver frost.  Lee recommended that I use a high-quality thin artist paint brush to touch up the damage I have - larger areas could be air brushed but Lee advised that the RV paint is applied at the factory using a roller system that leaves uniform lines in the cured paint, so any type of touch up is unlikely to result in a perfect match.

Your second choice is to try to source the paint locally.  Lee recommended that I try that first to avoid the shipping cost.  Rollie Williams will fax you a copy of the formula mix for your color ID and will tell you who can mix the paint locally based upon your zip code. They recommended that I try Keystone Automotive in Phoenix - this company appears to have locations in other states too. Unfortunately, Keystone Automotive did not stock one of the binding agents used in the formula for my color, so this option did not work out for me.

I got some Off bug spray on my camper. It turns out the DEET chemical destroys paint. So heads up...put any bug spray that has DEET in it far away from camper...or really anything.  I went online and learned that stuff is a nightmare on pretty much anything that isn't skin...

So I am very curious what you learn regarding application. I may repair mine at some point. Right now it looks like little water spots but my somewhat OCD goes nuts over it.

This is what decals and bumper stickers are for. Maybe even one of those US maps where you apply the colored state decals to show where you've visited.

I'm a rookie spray painting with compressed air spray gun!

Had a local paint supplier to scan the CampLite paint with a color matching paint camera. They mixed paint, gave advice/tips using an air spray gun.

It did not match exactly, like Lee said.

Lee at Rollie Williams told me that the touch up paint they are sending inlcudes both the base coat and clear coat components in a single paint.  I believe it is referred to as "single stage" paint.  The clear coat binding agent is what unavailable from the local vendor from whom I was trying to source the paint.
