House battery wiring.

I was going to get a battery for my 13qbb today.  Before going, I took a look at my wiring (no battery has ever been installed), at first glance, I saw what looked to be 1 black and 2 whites.  Upon a further inspection under the chassis, the whites are actually reds that have severely faded up by the battery box.  I followed the black back to the grounding terminal under the jackknife sofa.

One red went to the inverter at the refrigerator and the other red cable was wire nutted to a black wire going into the converter/circuit breaker box.

So, my red will be hooked to positive and black to ground like an automotive application.

My question is this: what color are your LL camper cables to your battery?  I thought that campers were wired from the house battery using a residential scheme (black = hot; white = neutral).

Mine are red (positive) and white (negative). How did you end up with a trailer without a battery? I didn't think it was recommended to run on just the converter as it cannot respond to surges like a battery can.  Do you have a separate battery for your emergency brakes?

[p]Tinkeringtechie is right. Never run a converter without a battery. It won't have a load to dampen surges. You can get a voltage spike that can blow delicate things like LED lights when you turn off a big DC load like the slideout motor without a battery connected.

AC wiring convention is black hot, white neutral, green ground. The DC wiring convention is red hot or positive, black ground or negative. It is confusing and there is a new red/yellow DC wiring convention that eliminates the confusion. But few use it.[/p][p]

I bought it used, this year.  Don't know why it was wired for a battery and had none. It doesn't look like one was ever installed.  Yes, there is a separate battery for the brakes.
