front storage &watertight seals

I have a brand new xlp and I was expecting that the front storage area would be watertight. After the first rain, there was leakage through the front panels. I adjusted the handles to create a slightly tighter seal,but after a second rain event there was still water leakage,but significantly less. It seems to me that these access panels should be watertight in most normal rain events...

Talked to LIvinLite and they recommended a small amount of silicone at the outer edges of the hinge at the top of the front panels.  I will try this and report back.
