Permanent water filter mod

I currently use a Camco portable water filter, the one that attaches to the end of the hose, and it works fine. My thought was to install a permanent water filter inside the camper 21bhs on the incoming city water feed. Maybe one could fix inside the cabinet that houses the water pump.

Has anyone done this mod and/ or have any ideas?

Can you leave a water filter unused for a month in a hot camper?

Technically you can permanently mount a water filter, but there are a few practical considerations.

[ol type="decimal"][li]Be sure to provide room to easily remove and replace the filter every season or so. [/li][li]I use the Camco blue TastePURE FDF/Carbon filter and always flush it each time before connecting it. I'm amazed at
the crud that flushes out after a short period of disuse and travel. I don't know if it's just the carbon being shaken out by travel or
something else, but I wouldn't want this junk in my water supply. [/li][li]I also use the filter when filling the fresh water tank. Easy to do with the filter on the hose end.

Thanks for the thoughts. The portable model is probably the better way to go, I was just looking to reduce the camp setup by one step.

I also tried to think of ways to reduce the setup time, especially on road trip type vacations.

This year I bought some Gardena quick connect hose pieces.
[a href="http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/gardena-comfort-quick-connect-starter-basic-kit-0593282p.html"]Gardena Hose Connectors[/a] (often on sale for us Canadians who shop at Canadian Tire).

I have a quick connect on:
[ul type="disc"][li]the male end of my Camco portable water filter,[/li][li]both ends of my water hose[/li][li]attach[span style="font-size:10pt;background-color:transparent;"]ed to the female end of my [/span][a href="http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/water-tank-filler-with-shut-off-valve/4674" style="font-size:10pt;background-color:transparent;"]fill tube[/a][span style="background-color:transparent;"] (**add a hose clamp to the base of the clear tube if you use this... mine separated from the yellow part and went INTO my tank fill line! Arg! It took me so long to get it back out!  [/span]???[span style="background-color:transparent;"])[/span][/li][li]one last connector I keep in a baggy in the "door" of the water inlet ports on the side of the trailer, since the connector won't allow the door to close properly and I don't want to leave the water line open to dirt and bugs.[/li][/ul]
When I set up, I just thread the water filter on the water tap and the connector onto the water inlet of the trailer... then snap! snap! It makes it easier to pop everything on and off when we are staying at a new campsite every day during our long distance trips!

That sound like a good way to go and you probably have less leaks.  Are those fittings "drinking water" safe or does it not matter.

I went searching on their website, but couldn't find a thing. Usually the "unsafe" part is the hose material, not the fittings. My guess is that it's probably alright, though they don't appear to have any NSF certification.

I use quick connect fittings as well but so far I've only used brass rather than plastic. They seem stronger and safer even if its just in my head :)
