Don't ask how I know, but Don is very familiar with dummies who might lose a kitchen window somehow  ;)    .

[p]FYI to all. Livinlite does not sell direct anymore per  Don's response to my e-mail.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Robert – I'm sorry but we can't sell direct to retail anymore
You'll have to go thru a dealer
Window part #
203044   Dometic   DOMC50105   Window C5 Frameless 19.625X12.00  Blk handles

[/p]
This is potentially a very serious problem for those of us stuck with lousy local dealers. I really hope Camping World can handle parts for the products used on Camplites, like windows; that will be my only hope in the long run.

I would ask Don which Dometic dealer knows anything about Dometic Seitz German made windows. There are several in the UK, Germany and Australia when you Google it, but none in the US. I agree, ARRRRGH!!

It is now clear what has happened to LL. When they were independent they built a quality, all aluminum/composite unit and sometimes used unique parts, like the Seitz windows. Now that Thor owns the brand, they are cutting corners in the construction as well as customer service and parts sourcing. I will bet that window will be gone before too long, just like the aluminum roof.

Roger all the above. I just sent Don an email asking him to "Thank" Thor for their new steps toward customer retention. Probably to no avail. I also hope non LL dealers like Camping World can order parts. However, that's entirely up to Thor as they can restrict their dealers however they choose. My closest listed LL dealer is 2+ hours away.

David: Recall I predicted the demise of the Dometic windows months ago. Sorry to say we might both be right.

In an effort to get a window I sent an e-mail to [a href="mailto:customersupportcenter@Dometicusa.com"]customersupportcenter@Dometicusa.com[/a] to see if the window could be sourced from them directly. No response yet but will keep you all informed. I have a dealer locally but don't particularly like them or their service so they will be my last resort.

Is it possible to work with any dealer and then just have that dealer drop ship the item to you? If all you want to do is source a part why couldn't a dealer place the order and take payment, then have the item shipped to you as the individual vs the dealer's location? I have no idea if there would be a cost difference, I assume there would be some sort of inflation with the addition of a middle man. However it might be worth asking about the shipping if it saves a trip.

[p]Working on it. Just got off the phone with Dometic and since it's a finished good they can't sell it except through a dealer. My dealer can get it for $150 plus shipping. He was told it was $95 to ship it and I told him they are out of their minds. A 19.5" x 12" plastic widow that weighs crap might cost $95 shipped UPS RED next day. And it's in California no less with Nevada next door![/p][p]
[/p][p] Anyway he is getting me a firm price on shipping. Bottom line is my stupidity will cost me  >:D  .[/p][p]
[/p][p][strong]Update $150 and free shipping[/strong]  :)  [/p][p]
[/p][p][strong]Stupidity still costs so this will go into the lessons learned![/strong][/p]

I'd forgotten about it until you reminded me, but closed windows are on our checklist. At ~$250 you won't forget so fast  :(
Charlie, could you send me your checklist?

Bob,

At the risk of thread drift, here it is:

My wife keeps this on her iPhone and runs through it each departure. Getting it on your phone is left as an exercise for the student.

Re your latest edit and considering elapsed time and additional players you're probably not being hosed too badly. Just check dem winders  ;)
Thanks very much and easy enough. Saved to computer and put in dropbox. Access on phone.

Thanks for the list Charlie. I see that you have the last item about stowing the outside thermometer. We just made that mistake last week when we came home from our most recent campout. Drove away with it still tucked under the trailer (but not secured). Got home before we realized it. $30 to buy a new outside sensor/transmitter. Aargh!!!
One good result from LL's installation of the small breakaway battery. When I removed the battery I had this neat box left on the frame. That's where I keep the thermal sensor now. I just leave it there all the time. Works great and is out of the weather.
