Thanx Magoo.  The cushions that I recycled from the sofa are a bit too frumpy, but they're only temporary.  We really enjoy having the drawers

Love what you have done!  I really like the drawers!

We are thinking of changing out our sitting area also. I would like a little more "technical " info about what you did. The pictures are nice, but not very informative. Seems like you cantilevered the floor to extend the space. Does it interfere with accessing the bathroom when the slide is in? How did you attach it? What was the mod at the back wall. Details??

We have the 21 RBS and will be spending LOTS of time in it. Biggest shortcomings are the dining area and no clothing wardrobe for the wife. I intend to put a removable rod in the shower for her long clothes, and will have to put the stuff on the bed when we use the shower.

I know I would appreciate you taking the time to provide some more detail to your mod. It was VERY WELL DONE!!

THANKS

Actually, it doesn't look like you can do this mod to a 21 RBS

Or am I WRONG ???!!!

I would think you can. In fact, the dinette in my 21BHS has "21RBS" written on it. I assume the dinette was made for a 21RBS mod and then used in my 21BHS. It may require a different approach though. Not sure of the existing structure in the RBS.

Any recommendations of how I should proceed? Should I contact LL?? Looks like where the floor cantilevers out, I have a different setup for the sofa. Or I could be seeing it wrong. We don't use the fold out sofa for anything other than sitting. I don't want to lose access to the bathroom with the slide in. It's our $30,000 outhouse, after all . What next??

gleam:  The new dinette does cantilever over the original deck, but 4" less than the sofa/sleeper did.  I ripped a 1X6 poplar (strong , but light) down to 5'', then glued and screwed some miniature joists from the back side to a rim joist, also of 1X6.  Then I screwed the rim joist with the little joist attached to the aluminum tube.  I then screwed a pc of 1/2" plywood to the deck and screwed it to the joists.  I slide the whole slide in and out after every couple of screws to make sure I hadn't messed up.  I finished if off with solid cherry front and side rims.  In the 16 the dimensions were 64 by 28. All the pieces and the plywood work against each other for strength.   After I built the drawer/seat benches I put another pc of cherry over the offset where the narrow outside storage compartment is on the sliding unit.  The table matches evenly with the shelf and it all flows together.  The table and round post are still easily removable.  So I have more room with the slide all the way in, I  can access the drawers and bathroom.  My wife and I race to use the drawers.  The drawer on the left (facing) is deeper than the right since I could not open the right completely with the slide all the way in.  Thanx for the kind words.  I would think that the 21 has a wider slide so you might have adjust the dimensions of the benches and table.  The recycled cushions from the back cushion of the sofa have the wrong kind of foam so I'm going to have new thinner and firmer ones  made.

thanx for the kind words, flyhead

This thread and the one posted by Whoofit on his retrofit really gets my creative side going. It helps a lot to see that slide space empty and to consider adding floor area for the potential of more more comfortable seating.

The drawers are things I wish we could have done but the heater, pump and converter compartments just don't allow it in our no slide trailer. To me, turning my back on the picture window was like substituting a still of a kitchen for ever changing art. Sometimes it is Norman Rockwell and sometimes Ansel Adams. Glassing the fauna was fun while perched here.

Whoofit:  Glad you liked the drawers.  After reading Merlin's comment I went back and found the great job you did on your mod.  I feel as tho I'm a little bit of a trader using all the wood that I did.  I had planned to use aluminum tubing as well, but when I determined plywood was the  best to extend the floor and that I wanted drawers it was just easier to use poplar and cherry.  While going thru your threads I really enjoyed your writing and sense of humor.  After my first two days in a KOA, I'll take Ansel every time, cheers

Thanks, flyhead.

My conversion changed this winter. Now gone are the converted sofa benches with a completely custom solution. And although I did my new revised solution before you did yours, with the inclusion of ~104" of 3/4"x3" oak board and a 30lb maple butcher block top, I will still blame you for my transgression and foray into the inclusion of organic matter to our trailer. If that's okay with you?

I think you have improved your experience dramatically which is the very essence of owning these nomadic homes we call trailers. Great stuff!

Oh, KOA? That'd be a Rockwell for sure... 8-)

Whoofit:  I'm good with the transgression.  I grew working in a family lumber company.  Oh BTW, I meant to type traitor instead of trader.  Not sure if it was spell check or the 2nd Moscow Mule kicking in.  Cool Beans
