I finally pulled the trigger and purchased a new 21BHS. This will be my second time owning a Camplite and very pleased my wife and I got our heads straight. My last rig was a 13QBB that we just outgrown because my son is growing like a weed. We almost jumped ship a few times this past month and purchased a Class C. I just could not get my head rapped around the idea of poor construction and the possibility of wood rot and rubber roofs. I knew what we needed to do but just got hooked with the idea of driving down the road in a motorized unit. After looking at many units with rot issues we decided it would be best to go back with what we love. I am a bit concerned with the added length and weight of this unit and completely confused as what to do with weight distribution. I have read all posts and it appears so is everyone else. I am not the biggest fan of the new interior, but it does make the wife happy. I pick up my unit on Thurs and can t wait!!!! Let the camping begin!!!!!!!

Congratulations on your new trailer! We just picked up our 21BHS in December and really like it. We haven't had any problems with weight distribution or tongue weight or towing, as the tongue weight is around 494 lbs when you get it from the dealer. Then that increases when you add the battery (or batteries) and anything else that you might put on the tongue area (we added a large battery and storage box). Also, when you put items in the basement (the pass thru storage area up front) and also put items in the inside storage area under the bed, that adds weight up front of the axles as well. All of that forward weight lends itself to a smooth and trouble free ride, and is enough to offset whatever items you have stored in the bunk bed area (rear of the axles). Just be sure not to put too much heavy stuff back there behind the axles. In addition, just to make sure we have a smooth ride, we installed the Andersen WDH hitch which helps provide sway contol as well. Many people on these forum threads utilize some sort of WDH and/or sway control even though technically you might not need it because it's nice extra assurance and something that's helpful when towing in windy conditions. Best wishes for smooth and safe travels with your new trailer!

Well congrats to both of you on your choice of campers. We picked up our 21BHS last summer and oddly enough my wife wanted the industrial looking interior so I am happy. As to tongue weight and towing we had 2 tanks and 1 battery on the tongue, a couple of hundred lbs in the pass through and a memory foam mattress on the bed and hit well over 600 lbs of tongue weight. Made the RAM 1500 squat several inches and ended up having to installing Air Lift 1000 bags in the rear coil springs just to get it level so watch what you stick up front as it adds up quickly. Installed an Anderson WDS and had no issues with sway.

We cook outside. To help to offset the tongue weight, we place plastic boxes of kitchen items and (non-refrigerated) food on the floor in front of the bathroom door of our 21-BHS for when we are in motion. This places them behind the axles.

Y'all are making me jealous. I wish I had a heavy enough rig to buy air bags for my tow vehicle.

CONGRATS! You will have so much more room to work with and tons more storage.  Good luck with you new toy!  We had a 6.0, 13QBB, just picked up our 16DBS Feb 20th.  Just needed a little more room.  The 16DBS is just right size and balance for the two of us (until she figures where to put a litter box?!  ;) ).  ENJOY!!![span]
