Grand Canyon trip report

Just back from a great weekend to the Mather campground at the south rim.  From Phoenix to GC and back our new Durango V6 pulled our 8.1 with overall 22 mpg efficiency, and I would forget I had the trailer in tow.  Our Mazda CX9 never had those kinds of numbers nor towed the QS so easily.

QS did great with Dad in one bed and I in the other, but his nightly bathroom runs had him fumbling for the door latch, which he correctly commented is mounted way to low on the door to be usable from the interior.

We doubled up his stock mattresses and he also put the dinette cushions under the stock bed cushions.

The highlight of the trip?  All three mornings we had elk loitering in our camp site.  Fantastic!

Sounds great.  We are heading to the Grand Canyon (Trailer Village) in September.

I was in Williams recently and checked out the campground at Kaibab Lake. If you were not staying at or near the Grand Canyon it would be an excellent place to set up base camp. Williams was a good visit as well.

Did you happen to take a look at the campground at the Grand Canyon Railroad? We're not staying there, but am curious for any future trips.

I did drive thru and checked out the GC Railroad RV Park. I use a Quicksilver camper and I also tent camp however I would prefer Kaibab Lake Campground. The GC Railroad RV Park is very nice but to me is more suited to motor homes, pickup campers and travel trailers.

Sorry, we didn't do any exploring around the area.  Except for an annual trip to Mather we generally don't camp north of Sedona or Cottonwood on I-17.  I have been meaning to explore more around Flag, though.
