First time out with 14DBS.

This past Saturday my wife and I took our 2014 14DBS out for the first time since purchasing it at the end of March. For one night, we checked everything out in a practical setting. Never have we ever gone camping in a trailer. It's always been in a tent. I knew we would have some issues, but other then backing the trailer into the spot, which again was the first time, and the awful bed that comes with the trailer, and the wasn't a surprise either from reading threads on this site, everything worked better then I imagined.

I hooked everything up and it worked. Electric, water, sewer all good. I thought dumping the sewer was going to be weird, but it wasn't.

I did notice, and not totally sure, but I think the LP option on my refrigerator isn't working. AC and DC options worked. I'm taking it back out tomorrow with my dad and will try to test that option more.

Looking forward to more journeys.

Takes a few shake down camping trips to iron out the bugs. Hope you get the refrigerator working. We bought a memory foam mattress at the local mattress store while on sale and now the CampLite bed is just as comfortable as the bed at home! You probably need to be careful with the mattress thickness for someones feet to have enough room under one of the cabinets.

Wishing my TV would allow an appreciable mattress upgrade. Sure would be nice.

I'm by no means an expert on getting the fridge working on propane. I used to have trouble too. Now I start by lighting the stove first as that seems to purge any air out of the system -- and then the fridge burner seems to get going. I do find sometimes it can be hard when lighting it to know if it is lit or not. If the ambient noise is too loud you can't hear the burner and it can take a bit of time to detect the heat discharge.

I do the same thing.  I light the stove shortly before removing the A/C power when getting ready to head out.  If I don't, sometimes the refrigerator will "time out" before lighting.

Another good way is to fire up the furnace, this will purge the air out of the gas lines quicker.
I always select what I want the Frig to run on instead of using the Auto Mode.

also, to use the fridge in gas mode, it has to be very level.  while it will still light if not level, it wont cool for beans since the ammonia coolant wont flow into the separator correctly when it heats up

Thanks for the advice. For reasons unknown to me, the frig is working. Took the panel off and fussed with igniter assembly and it started working. Took the trailer back out for another shakedown without hookups, and it did great.

I have had similar experiences with the frig starting on Gas. It appears to be related to the gas lines filling. My dealer suggested the "starting the stove method" mentioned above. The other methods mentioned will achieve the same result, but the stove lets you see what is happening.

Hey:
Do you still have the 14DBS? How is it working out?
I am thinking of buying a 2017 14DBS, but I am nervous about some of the frame weld cracking and other quality issues (leaks, material failure...) that I have been reading about on this site.  Any words of wisdom?  Thanks!

Keith,

We sold our 2010 CampLite 11, but not due to any problems. Had a couple of water leaks, but they were easy to fix. Our Mighty 11 is a fine camper, we sold it after buying a Oliver Travel Trailer.
