You know how Frankenstein's monster had those terminals on his neck for attaching the jumper cables? Well I've just added similar ones to the exterior of  [a href="http://livinlite-owners.com/thread/2102/battery-pair-golf-cart-batteries"]>> my new battery box <<[/a]. The terminals are intended for use on race cars where they can be accessed on the outside of the car to jumpstart the car without lifting the hood. On my battery box they provide me an super easy way to attach my 40w solar panel. Normally it would need to clamp onto the terminals on the battery. Now I don't need to open the battery box as I can hook up the panel to these external terminal posts. Likewise I can use them with my tire compressor or other 12v accessories. Of course they can also be used with external battery chargers and maintainers.

Each post is a massive 6oz of beautifully machined billet brass. Some comments on amazon are that purchasers were surprised by the quality and how big these posts are. They aren't rinkydink. I did find the machining of the brass to be so crisp the edges could cut you. Before installing I took some emery paper to them  and sanded the edges a bit smoother. To install I needed to drill 1.25" diameter holes in the cover of the battery box. To do that I used a spade drill bit that made quick, neat, holes, easily cutting through the plastic cover. The posts drop through the hole and a threaded ring is used to clamp the post in place. I connected the posts to the battery terminals using #4 cables. I used two different lengths so when I remove the cover those cables will allow the cover to be moved off to the side. The finished installation is quite slick. The covers are a soft plastic & I'm finding them difficult to get off. I'm sure they'll loosen up some after being taken off. The first time I took them off I needed a screwdriver to pry them off --- very tight!
