We closed up our apartment in Chicago and were driving south on I-65 when we came to an abrupt spot. A mile ahead of us was a really bad accident, with 5 people injured, and a medical helicopter was necessary. The accident happened near a construction zone. We spent 3 hours stopped there after a long day of packing our stuff into our Jeep and Ford Ranger.

Granted, my trip interruption was nowhere near as bad as what those injured people suffered, but this is the second time in a week that I have come to a dead stop on an interstate. In this part of the country, we seem to have 2 weather seasons, winter and construction.

We are seriously discussing using surface roads whenever possible. Leave interstates to the semi's. (This latest accident started with a tractor trailer ramming the back of a pickup truck at a construction zone.)
Located in Kentucky and Florida at present

Cringe when I hear Dead Stop. Hope you have a safe journey.

Just noticed this thread and wanted to chime in that at dinner this evening my wife and I planned our next trip to avoid interstates, as we did our last trip. In our area there are several sections of interstates noted for regularly becoming parking lots.
