[/p][p]For the past few days, periodically I find that while typing a reply, the screen takes a few seconds to reflect the characters I type and sometimes I lose characters. It has gotten so bad that I compose a long message on Notepad and copy and paste it to the reply box. Having said the above, as I type this it is fine, but a few minutes ago it was slow as molasses.[/p][p]
[/p][p]I have a 16 ms ping, 30 Mbs upload and 5 Mbps download internet connection and this problem doesn't occur on any other forum.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Can you help?[/p][p]

[/p][p]David[/p]
David,

I'm at a loss as to what could be happening.  I am seeing no such delays, although I know that must be very aggravating.

I am using Chrome with no issues.  What browser are you using?

Just typed this on my iPad at work and everything seems to be working as it should but I am not a techie so who am I to say what may or may not be happening.

Allow me to throw a little sand into this. I just ran a test to verify this. After clicking the reply button and typing a few letters I disconnected my WIFI connection completely. All succeeding characters were instantly displayed on my screen, apparently from my local browser. Only when I tried to post the reply did I get a "server not found" error. That leads me to believe David's problem may be local. That said, David, I also compose long posts in a word processor and copy into a reply. I've lost whole replies due to my too fast mouse clicks.

Charlie:

I tried your test. Yes it works the same for my browser offline. So I guess my problem is local but I don't know what to do about it. I guess I will write the long posts on Notepad and copy. This one is typing fast both on and offline and misspellings are flagged offline, and sometimes automatically corrected.

Maybe some unknown process was eating up processor speed. Maybe my Windows 10 download perhaps which is due to be available today. I am hoping it fixes some of the stupid stuff in 8.1.

David,

My guess was and is something is slowing your computer. I use Advanced System Care (ASC) which has a small on screen monitor that lets me watch CPU, HDD , and network usage in real time. The program also has a virus scanner, but I use others and others are available. ASC has a free version.

Re WIN10 I can't see anything it provides above 8.1 except the return of the classic start menu and some game enhancements. ASC provides the classic start menu for me and I don't do games. I'm waiting for WIN10 to be fully available so I might find a cheaper full 8.1. I've still got XP on a few machines.

David- My guess is you've got a plugin or extension that's slowing down your browser, or there's another process on your machine that's eating up all your resources. Pull up the task manager (Ctrl-Shift-Esc) to see if you can find the culprit while you're typing. The skype plugin was just about the worst thing to happen to IE because it would literally scan all text on all webpages looking for phone numbers.

A little late to the party here, but I tend to agree with everything suggested so far.

Well I think my problem has gone away, so thank you all for your input. FWIW it lasted for a couple of days and I only noticed it on this forum and this forum isn't the only one that I typed longish messages. But even so, I agree that my problem was local to my PC and not related to this board.

Have the same issue on other forums too, running Win 8.1 with Firefox. Find turning off some of the add-ons, after security runs automatic downloads, system seems to run better.
