Camplite Travel Trailers / A Thor Thubject
December 27, 2016, 12:07:54 PM
I my be giving away my age here, but when I grew up, terms like " monopoly " and "buyout" were bad words. Sherman Anti Trust, Taft Hartley....even Teddy Roosevelt
worked to control the dangers of huge conglomerates. Nowadays, there are something like four airlines in the US, and competition seems to be a thing of the past. Recently, Thor purchased Jayco, a long time family owned rv company, for $576 million. They already bought out companies like Airstream, Keystone, Damon....you get the drift, and, of course, Livin Lite. I wonder if any of these companies have improved their product since being taken over by Thor? There has been lots of discussion on this site about changes made to the Livin Lite legacy by Thor, such as one piece, all aluminum roof ( now rubber ), full piano hinge aluminum/composite cabinets ( now cheap wood with standard european hinges ) and others. Personally, these were the features, along with the aluminum framing, that attracted me to LL in the first place. The " no wood to rot " banner screamed out to me. Had to have it. Now, to add insult to injury, the brains behind Thor have pulled the support from this wonderful forum. Instead of reading what we discuss here, and perhaps improving the product, they chose to axe it, and shut out the dialogue. I, for one, am obviously not a fan of Thor, in any regard. Their move to do away with this site just gives me more cause to wish them ill. I will miss you guys. Happy Trails.........

Will there be a way that non members of the new site can find the aluminium site from a Google search?? Lots of times, I am directed to other forums sites when I pose a question, i.e, what can I tow behind a MH, or how do I repair an awning on my Livin Lite.....you get the drift.

I would never think of looking under aluminum..???!!! What happened to the pro boards Livin Lite site??

Boy, I 'm gonna' miss this  :'(   Forum

Camplite General Q & A / Looking for a new home
November 18, 2016, 11:37:56 PM
With heavy heart, we will be putting our 2015 21 RBS up for sale in the " for sale " section and then, probably on Craigslist. Just wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your friendship and help here on this forum. It has been a wonderful experience. I always seem to get the trailer " just right " and then the wife says she wants to go " bigger". We are in Arizona now, in the Tucson area, and will see what we can do. As always, we wish you all " HAPPY TRAILS......"

Camplite General Q & A / LP Gas Monitors
October 26, 2016, 08:52:31 PM
We are camping near Zion NP, after staying a few days in Bryce. Unbelievable!!

Had some cold nights. Seems we always run out of gas during the night. I can tell by two, sometimes three things:

1) I don't hear the heater kicking on

2) SOMETIMES the red light on the WH is glowing or

3) my wife is GLUED to me for body heat.

It's usually number 3

Going outside in the middle of the night to switch tanks is a pain.

There are LOTS of LP monitors on the market. Are any of them worth  the money?? I'd appreciate any good recommendations. This should be a " no Brainer".

Too bad we can't switch the tanks from inside the trailer. I could cut a hole......???????!!!!!!

Camplite General Q & A / Cooktop Upgrade ??
October 22, 2016, 09:53:13 PM
We are going from camping out 7 weeks at a time to 7 months !!?? We have traveled from our place in Maine to Utah. Bryce Canyon is beyond words. Heading south west for the winter.

HOWEVER.........

My wife likes to cook. She HATES the SVEA cooktop that came with our 21 RBS. Not enough BTU's. I hate it because I tried to replace the little grommets that wear out at the grates. They cost over $30 for eight of them !!!!! Wore out a few the first year we had the trailer. Don said they didn't warranty the parts and Dometic was no help at all.

Has ANYBODY ever upgraded the stove? Seems like it would cost a small fortune, anyway.

Maybe it's time for a Class A........??????

Camplite General Q & A / Emergency brake cable
July 29, 2016, 10:22:50 PM
We just pulled into a campsite in Great Barrington. I don't like setting up the trailer in the dark after a long, not so pleasant drive. So...... I accidentally got the run away cable tangled up when I unhitched my tow and pulled it out!!

The question is..... what next ??
Will I have any difficulty finding out where to replug the plastic dohickey??
Do I have to do anything else after finding the place and plugging it in??
Are my wheels forever locked up??

It's better than when I hooked up my battery backwards in the dark.....no fuses to mess with???!!!

Thanks. I'm going under the hitch tomorrow morning.

HELP!!!!  We are outside of Richmond Va heading to Belfast Maine. Google maps have us going on the MERRIT PARKWAY !!!???  We know we can't.

We have tried to ask Good Sam ( I am a  roadside member ), but must be doing something wrong.

Does anyone out there know how we get our trailer on the proper level of the George Washington Bridge and  then how to proceed up towards New England ??

Once, a long ,long time ago, I knew how to do this.

We will leave early tomorrow morning, so don't be shy about getting back to me ASAP !!!!

THANKS

Camplite General Q & A / Selling the Palace ???
May 04, 2016, 11:22:07 PM
So....now that I finally have our 21 RBS set up JUST THE WAY I WANT IT.....and now that we have worked out some "bugs" with LivinLIte.....and now that I've custom built the cabinet under the sink; upgraded the sink and faucet; put in a REAL queen mattress with beefed up struts; and designed and built the full "pull out" in the basement; and installed the carrier over the tongue to carry the honeypot; and reswung the cabinet doors and upgrade to Fantastic Fans and fixed the step problem; and  beefed up the rear number for the bike rack, and built the storage on the front for the sewer line ....
NOW she's talking about more full time in a Class A !!!!!

I will be be leaving Charleston, SC June 1,2016, heading north to our new summer cabin outside Belfast Maine.

Now that Thor has screwed up the cabinets, changed the roof from our all one piece aluminum roof and... what else??!!, I truly believe that I own a collectors item!

If anyone out there has the ability to buy my wonderful 2015 21 RBS with LOTS of extras along the route, we can work out the specifics. You have to be prepared to pay a fair and reasonable price for all the above improvements......she was used a little, but you can hardly tell. She is LOVED a lot.

PM me. Or just respond to this and we can figure out the best way to talk specifics.

Camplite General Q & A / Nitrogen In Tires
April 10, 2016, 08:55:27 AM
When we purchased our 21 RBS, our dealer mentioned " nitrogen filled tires ??". I had never heard of this. He glossed over the issue, mentioning " cooler running tires" or some such thing. On a subsequent visit, I asked how I can fill a tire if it reads " low", and he said just use traditional air.

OK.

Does anyone have the definitive answer to the whats and the hows ?? Do I have to find a Camping World if I need air. How much does it cost? Why do they do it in the first place? Do they REALLY use nitrogen ????

Time for some education.

Camplite General Q & A / Extended Warranties
March 23, 2016, 05:21:32 PM
Just tried a search on these posts regarding any discussion about extended warranties. I received a Good Sam invite to get a quote on their program. I imagine it isn't inexpensive, but am reluctant to send my name, etc to get on their data base. Anyone out there have any experience, good or bad, with these things. We don't, as a rule, believe in extended warranties, but feel pretty certain that SOMETHING will break down, just when we need it the most!! Thing is, if a refrigerator or ac unit or water heater went out on us, I would rather upgrade at that time, if there are better products available, and that could be retrofitted. Let me know what you think. and as Roy Rogers said.......

Camplite Travel Trailers / Range Hoods
March 16, 2016, 09:10:10 PM
We cook a lot in the camper. Even with the roof exhaust fan running full steam, and the window open,  it can get messy in there. I only would install a through the wall hood fan, if I can find a decent one. I was in an Airstream this past February, and saw that they install a unit made by baraldi. I just got done with a search and wasn't surprised that they sell for over $300 !!. Has anyone installed a through the wall range hood, and could you tell me the brand/model number you used?

I am convinced that this will eventually be done in our rig. Gotta have something to play with, after all.

Trip Planning / Mexico or Bust
February 19, 2016, 10:01:01 AM
OK....

the wife and I are talking about a BIG trip to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. We have LOTS of preguntas about pulling a trailer into the depths of our southern neighbor. Has anyone taken their RV into Mexico? We will begin our search for recommendations of how to do this, i.e. books, blogs etc. ......but I was just wondering......?????

Camplite General Q & A / Water Heater Jealousy
February 01, 2016, 08:53:42 AM
With all the talk of the newer gas/electric water heaters now being installed in the LL's, I wonder if anyone has installed the electric rod that is available ( from Camco ?) and that replaces the anode rod. Since there is a reason for the anode rod, wouldn't that cause damage to the heater?

I am a little jealous of those who have the dual setup......

Of course, I would put an "on demand" heater in my trailer in a New York Second, IF they were reasonably priced and made by Rinnai !!!
