What do you do to keep connected to the internet while camping? Its a multiple answer poll. I go with what's available.
I took a seasonnal campsite this year and they are supposed to have wifi available for free, but if it's crappy I might consider getting a 4g lte hotspot
I am in Galveston for a 3 day weekend. At first the campground wifi was fast but after the Friday night storm, and multiple power outages, there network has been down. I am using my 4g Verizon hotspot now instead.
we always boondock, so we are lucky to have a cell signal at all, nevermind data
We have a Mifi on Verizon - switched from ATT to Verizon because of their better signal strength nation wide. Our experience with ATT was if you weren't in city boundaries you didn't have signal.
We use a Mifi 4620L, very popular with RV folks - it has an external antenna on it that definitely pulls in signal much better than just a phone. Finished a trip NM to Fla and had just a couple places with 0 signal - NM/Texas border and a campground outside of Talahassee.
A final comment on free wifi - we tried using it wherever available and it was always bad - just for browsing too, not trying to stream anything.
Honestly most of the time we put our phones into airplane mode while camping and only turn them on for a short period of time in the evening as we unwind. If we need data we just turn on the phones and tether them. This is also assuming we actually have signal. It seems most of the places we tend to go are real hit or miss when it comes to cell service.
