Title: Brand New BC16FK has a water leak but easy fix
Post by: swbc150 on April 12, 2015, 10:08:29 PM
[p]I checked the Water Pump and its not it, look the best I could at the hot water tank, didn't see any leaks. Fittings are tight, reached in the best I could, was dry. Hot water tank by-pass valves are all on the "On" Position, is this correct? I've never had a Hot Water Heater with 3 valves, always just two, so I'm thinking I may have one of them "ON" instead of "Off" but which one.[/p][p]The water is leaking under the left front corner, looks to be near the hot water heater.[/p][p]Other than that the water pump will prime/pressurize and turn off, leave the water pump switch "On", then it will turn back on and re-pressurize then again the leaking water when the water pump is "on".[/p][p]Not much water seems to be in the Hot Water Tank, the release valve releases allot of Air, then water.[/p][p]Something Simply here that I am overlooking?[/p][p]

iircv the middle valve is the bypass and should remain closed (so water is forced into the tank).  the other 2 are open during use

if your fresh water fill is directly above your water heater, check there.  mine is held on (barely) with a hose clamp and sometimes comes loose (tighten the cap and it will turn the fitting, causing the hose to become loose)

Thanks for the reply, been out on a week long Spring Turkey Hunt and went through 38 gallons of fresh water in 2.5 days.
Water Leak is more like a faucet open when the water pump is "On" and you can hear it too.
Is worse now since I drove down a Forest Road for 2 miles before we set up Camp.
From my trouble shooting the problem seems to be under the Hot Water Tank and a area I can't access.
The HWT does fill with water and seems to be not the problem.
No nearby Livin-Lite dealers nearby, so it would be better If I can figure out how to access the water lines under the HWT w/o taking out the HWT. If it comes to that, then I will have to have it fixed by Livin-lite.

Odds are it wasn't winterized correctly, and that you have a cracked PEX fitting, toilet valve, sink or shower faucet. That happened to me (shower faucet had water left in and cracked).

First- an obvious one - Have you shut off the valves that drain the plumbing?

Next thing I'd do would be to figure out if it's on the hot side or the cold side. If you shut off all three of the hot water bypass valves, you'll have no pressure on the hot water side. If it stops leaking, the problem is on the hot water side.

I'd also look under the camper and see from where it's leaking.

I don't think you can get at anything from the outside - it'll have to be from the inside.

I found a Livin Lite Dealer in Albuquerque, NM about 18 miles from my Home, they refused to do the warranty work, said they don't handle the Bearcat Models but do sell the VRV's. Guess since I didn't buy a VRV from them they won't accept my Bearcat.

All three valves are shut off, still leaks water but only one faucet doesn't get any water at all. It is the outside Hot Side shower faucet.

No doubt I have a serious leak as you can hear it flowing with the water pump on and the leak is at the front left corner in a area you can't see the water lines.

Can't see getting to it from inside of the camper but I'll look again today as before I was in a bit of a rush to get out to the Camp site.

I did contact Livin lite today with a Email, not only about the Livin Lite Dealer in Albuq but if there is any other options I have to get this fixed somewhere else.  I told them I would fix it, I just need to know how to get to the water line.

The Dealer I bought it from has been very helpful, they are looking into how to access the water lines that are under the Hot Water Tank, as that is the water leak appears to be located at.

If it comes to be, I will pay a RV Dealer to fix it out of my own pocket. Things happen, in no way would I not recommend the Livin-Lite to others.

It will get done, at least I don't have to worry about getting any Wood Soaked with water, lol.

I took about a dozen pics today but I still can't see where the leak is, even with the water pump turned "on".
You can not get your body into the lower cabinet far enough to see the water lines in the left front section on the trailer floor, so I tried to take pics w/my camera.

I would bet the Hot Water Tank has to be removed to access these water line connectors and there are a bunch in there w/elbows and "Tees".

Maybe I can at least find the leak by looking through the fresh water fill up section by taking it out but it is too small of a opening to reach in w/both hands.

With all three water valves turned off at the HWT, no flow of water from any of the Hot faucets.
The Cold Faucets all had pressure except for the Outside Cold faucet, it had water but not the pressure of the others including the toilet.

that is nuts about the dealer not accepting warranty work...i didnt realize they could do that as an authorized dealer.  i bet if they didnt have a backlog of spring work to do they would take it in a heartbeat.  then again, they cant overcharge on warranty work (since LL is picking up the tab), so they would probably put it at the bottom of the list.

I look over the HWT, doesn't look to be a big deal in removing. Not anything like my other Travel Trailers with the hot water tank. Those used copper tubing for both the water inlet/outlets on the hot water heater tank but this Livin-Lite uses the plastic fittings, a electrical plug-in, the gas connection and a bunch of outer screws on the outer diameter of the HWT. This looks to be the only way to access these water lines that are in the left front corner.

Sounds like it's not on the hot water side - if it were, the leak would have stopped with all three shut off. If the pressure is low on the outside cold faucet, I'd start there.

Where on the trailer is the outside faucet? Is it anywhere near where the water is leaking?

It may be as simple as a crack in the outside faucet or a  nearby PEX fitting.

The outside Shower is on the left side front and above the leak. I'll take apart the outside faucet again and see if I can see the leak looking at the cold line hose w/water pump on.
Odd thing is, the other day when I did this, the hot water side had no water on the outside hot shower faucet even with the hot water valves turned on and the cold outside shower was running fine. Now it appears the cold line water pressure on the outside shower has decreased since then.

I'll keep it in mind if it comes to taking it to a Dealer.

So far I have not been able to find any RV dealer that I have checked with that will honor the Livin-Lite Warranty, so come Monday I will be doing the repairs myself.
The only way I can see getting to the water leak area is by removing the hot water heater as the leak is under it on the floor. Today's water heaters are completely installed different than say the one in my 2003 THOR Travel Trailer, as the present water heater in the BC16 uses plastic screw on fittings for both the hot/cold inlet/outlets.

[p]ok, found the problem and happy to say it was a easy fix.[/p][p]
[/p][p]I decided to check behind the fresh water filler's, the fresh water by garden hose and the city water connector. I wanted to see if I could see the leak with a flashlight looking down to where the water was leaking out of the Trailer, which was the left front corner, below the hot water heater tank.[/p][p]As soon as I turned on the water Pump water was spraying all over the place, there were two good size cracks on the city water plastic water connector.  [/p][p]I kick myself for not checking this after I check the outside shower inside faucet connectors but it was late and I was a bit tried after driving 5 hours.[/p][p]
[/p][p]I am figuring Livin Lite over tighten the city water connector (Plastic connector) on the inside of the fresh water filler's.[/p][p]
[/p][p]I'm betting the dealer noticed the leak during the winterizing the Trailer and then tried a bandaid fix which didn't work. Instead of replacing the cracked plastic fitting, someone just put a bunch of sealant all over the connector, inside and on the outside on the connector fitting.[/p][p]
[/p][p]I cut off the fitting at the hose end, installed a new plastic fitting to the brass fitting (hose Clamped the filler hose to the new plastic connector), refilled the HWT with water, got all of the air out of the other water lines. Left water Pump "ON" for 2 hours, no leaks anywhere, No cycling of the water pump.[/p][p]
[/p][p]Still don't care for the outside shower sprayer, believe I am gong to change it to something more useful.[/p][p]
[/p][p]1st pic shows the left side of the Bearcat, Top small black door is the Outside shower location, below it is the Hot water Tank and the lower black door is the fresh/city water connectors location.[/p][p]2nd pic is the plastic connector that was leaking.[/p][p]

great to hear.  in a pinch you can also get those fittings at ace hardware (other hardware stores too i am sure).  i had the same fitting, but on my external shower, crack on my old camper.  the outside showers can be a pain to get all of the water out of when winterizing
