Looks like me and sweetie pie are ahead of schedule, so we're moving the trip up a few days. We hope to depart this Friday (April 3) from Eastern NC, headed to the Seattle WA area. Other than to meet our brand new granddaughter, we really don't have any set plans, just two rolling stones.. :)
We're figuring @ 6 weeks and thought I'd get this thread kicked off now. We have a lot to do before steering west. The only snag, I see with trying to keep our travels updated via this forum, is the inability to post photos via mobile phone or tablet (both Droids)? Any advice is welcome.

If public wi-fi the only way to post, we can wait 6 weeks. Stay away from them as they are draws anymore for even the most amateur of hackers. Call me paranoid, fine. Better to be safe. So be safe, have fun with that grandbaby (I'm still jealous) and carpe diem!
P.S. Speaking of rolling stones, they announced yesterday they'll play Orlando 6/12...whaatttt? Thought they were dead. Name change needed, they've gathered way too much moss.

Have a look into Air Droid. Other than that HAVE A GREAT TRIP!
We use a Straight Talk secure wifi hot spot from Walmart. Used it last year with a laptop, and plan to buy a tablet to use with the hotspot this year when traveling/camping out west. We purchase a $15 1GB 30 day card (there are larger GB 30 day cards available) and we don't use it unless camping for a week or more. The Straight Talk coverage maps looks identical to Verizon's map, but not sure of networks used. We upload low resolution photos to photobucket & check/send emails with it. It worked fine in most states tried out to Wyoming, but had trouble with it at one campground in MO.
We're always looking for better ways to make reservations & communicate with folks while camping. Will check out Air Droid, too.
Has anyone figured out a way to successfully link photos to this forum via Tapatalk App on a Droid?

KOA at Elk City, OK tonight. Night 3 of the trip. So far no issues, the camper pulls great. The Smoky Mountains on I-40 were no challenge at all for the F150. I'll post some photos soon..

You're experiencing the crosswinds I did while driving out to AZ and the Grand Canyon (and Moab, UT). The Andersen worked great for me as well.

We stopped in Flagstaff this morning to pick up a few groceries at Wally World. The headwinds have just been brutal again today. Supposedly the winds will die down tomorrow, which is good timing as we plan to camp near the Grand Canyon for 2 days.

I have camped in my 21-BHS in temps down to 19 degrees overnight. I kept the trailer warm all night using the propane furnace. The temp the next day was in the 50's. I had no problems. I am not sure that you need to drain.

I don't mess around with frozen pipes. Pex is pretty good but a frozen shower trap could get messy. I'd spill some antifreeze down there if you could. Charlie, the only water moving this morning was at the kitchen sink, the cold side. Tonight my plan is to do want I did last night - removing the water hook up, but also drain the low points this time. That means getting up and running water won't be possible. Once this trip is over, I'm going to insulate all of the exposed water lines underneath. This camper should be able to handle 8 hours of freezing temps?!
Thanks for the schematics, I'll look them over tonight. We've been hiking the Grand Canyon all day and had a blast, man that place gets crowded!

No floor insulation, we have several area rugs over the faux wood floor.
We kept it very warm inside, probably 76° at least.
Yes disconnected city water and drained hose.
The gas water heater stayed on.
Did not leave the lower cabinet doors open... will do that tonight.
The kitchen water, cold side that was working was from the water pump. But that makes sense, it comes straight up from the fresh tank, no exposed lines.
Fresh tank was over 3/4... It did not freeze.
The small diameter red and blue lines that were exposed under the bathroom area, froze. On my unit most of those will be easy to wrap. There may be some areas where they're hidden, but I can clearly see long sections that aren't.
The good news is, it all thawed with no damage.

Need ideas on what to see out here in the Pacific NW? I suggest stopping by Mt. St. Helens. It's not everyday you get to visit an active volcano and even though it erupted over 30 years ago, the scope of devastation is still mind-blowing.
The San Juans are among my favorites. Oh! ... and the Snoqualmie pass, featuring Mt. Rainier, rivals Banff in beauty any day! :D

Where did you hike at the Canyon? We hiked the Bright Angel Trail down to the 3 mile mark. Incredible experience. We also hiked the entire rim trail, the side hikes including some of the Kaibob trail, as well as some of the walkways through the other areas of the park. If you get a chance, grab a meal at the Bright Angel Restaurant. Great meals and great view.
You're making me want to go back! We really want to take the Bright Angel down to the 4.5 mile point. Enjoy!

Brenda! The State of Oregon needs to put your on their tourism board! After reading this, I'm coming to Oregon, (.... if He wants to! :))! I do remember those incredible redwood trees I saw as a young child while on a family vacation so long ago. I remember thinking, Oregon must be the most beautiful state in the country. Since then, I've grown up, and confess, I've been put off by the left's politics seemingly dominating the west/northwest regions. We're taking 101 through northern Cal and Oregon - or that's the plan for now :) We really like this trailer a lot. It's perfect for our style of camping and traveling.

This is my tip. Don't miss Jeddia smith state/national park. This is patch of redwoods they filmed "ewok" villiage in the "return of Jedi" Star Wars movie. It one of my favorite camping spots ever.

The irony is, the Redwoods are in north CA and everything I suggested, except for the coast, are in WA. So let me do some REAL Oregon promos!
Like I said, our coast is killer! If you notice, WA has very few towns on their coast and I don't know why....I've only seen their town of Long Beach and came away disappointed. Oregon, however, is another story, starting at the top in Astoria and all the way down. Lights houses galore, WWII batteries preserved in all their spooky glory, and sheer beauty that blows you away. Particularly between Cannon Beach (one of my favorite beach towns) and Lincoln City (one of my least favorite). Except you can't stop at Lincoln City, because the scenery continues! Depot Bay for seeing whales, Newport to visit the sea lions, down to Bandon, a beach with rock formations designed by Dr. Seuss (not really , but they SEEM to be).
Inland is our drop dead gorgeous Columbia Gorge (absolutely DO stop and hike to the top of Multnomah Falls), Crater Lake that is the color of blue hair gel, and Mt. Hood with its historic Timberline Lodge, featured in the original movie, The Shining. You may notice I am partial to the western half of the state, but Bend and all the area around it is amazing in a desert-ish way.
As for our politics, I hear you. But the Liberals all live in Portland and congregate along the Willamette River down to Salem and Eugene, and the REST of the state is staunchly conservative and would love to secede so our votes would count for once!
Btw, you will love the lack of a sales tax here. Tourists luck out here for sure. We make up for it with our horrendous property tax. You're welcome.
Bandon is also home to 3 of the Top 20 public golf courses in the country, if you care about that sort of thing. So difficult that they will chew up and spit out a scratch golfer, but so beautiful you'll smile about the experience.
Also, of all the beach towns to despise for being too...tourist beach town trap-ish...Seaside reigns over Lincoln City, with, I'm sorry to say, Cannon Beach is a close runner-up with it's artsy-fartsy limousine liberal 1%-er vibe. Now, you will see signs and billboards advertising a regional series of restaurants called "Mo's", claiming the best chowder in the state. I can assure you this is just so much hogwash. The proof is that they sell Mo's chowder in the frozen section at Costco. Case closed.
The best chowder is in fact to be found in a little roadside dive on US 101 that used to be a drive-in burger joint, now called The Newport Cafe. Despite the misleading name, this place is actually in Newport. Chowder is mandatory, and pretty much any kind of deep fried seafood is to be found here. They also do a respectable breakfast and even a decent steak but that's only ordered by seafood jaded locals. Ambiance is best not to talk about, there's so little of it. These guys have a fry-o-lator and they know how to use it. Don't stare at the server's tattoos, please.
Good stopping points in the central coast are South Beach SP just south of Newport, Beverly Beach SP just north of Newport, and Devil's Lake SP in Lincoln City. If you stay on the coast all the way up, Fort Stevens SP near Astoria at the mouth of the mighty Columbia River is the most extensive SP in the system, and there is both a civil-war era coastal defense fort that was actually fired on by the Japanese during WWII and the rebuilt Fort Clatsop, where Lewis and Clark wintered before heading back east. Astoria is also the filming location for Kindergarten Cop and The Goonies, which surprisingly has the larger cult following.
If you want a side trip on your way through Portland, go up US-26 to Mount Hood. The lodge dates to the WPA in the 30's, and was used for the exterior shots in The Shining. The US Olympic ski team trains here year round and there's a legit 4 star restaurant in the lodge - catch the brunch buffet on the weekend if you have the option. Continue down the back side of the mountain through Hood River and back down I-84 in The Gorge to Multnomah Falls on the way back. Try to spot the euphemistically named Rooster Rock (Lewis and Clark named it something else for it's phallic resemblance - the original name will come to you in a few minutes of pondering) where there is also reported to be a nude beach at the state park there (the bureaucrats are who changed the name when they made it a state park). Here is where you will find free-spirited Portland hippies by the bushel. Be up on your shots if you decide to pause, and keep your windows rolled up tight. In fact, just skip Portland altogether, and go around this route and pick up I-5 again and cross over into Washington. Portland is dreadful.
If you stay inland and come up I-5, about the only thing to stop for is a Frank Lloyd Wright house somewhere around Silverton northeast of Salem. I think it's still there.
Another place you go hippie-watching is the Eugene/Springfield area. The hippie watching season around Ashland doesn't pick up until the rut starts in mid-late July.

We pulled into the KOA in Fancy Gap, VA yesterday. It's so beautiful we decided to spend Mother's Day here. Yep, we're both ready to get back and hope to be eating supper, showering, sleeping, etc in the "big home" tomorrow :)

I wished I could have just kept this thread remotely updated (easily), but in the end the blog was/is the way to go. Setting up the blog (Google Blogger) was fairly straight forward and with a smart phone, it is totally easy to update and post photos from anywhere (3G, 4G, or WiFi) without a need for a 3rd party photo site link!
Thanks for those who took the time to hit the blog link and keep up with us. We're planning Nova Scotia and/or "the Keys" next?
ps, we're also hoping to make the next LL/CL get together!?

[/quote]We are making a LL get together in New Brunswick in June 25 to June 28 at Fundy National Park, see the details in this thread http://livinlite.proboards.com/thread/1045/livin-lite-gathering-fundy-national if you want to go to Nova Scotia after the gathering you will be close to it since you have to go though New Brunswick to get there. We have currently 3 Camplite participating to the event.
