Title: Interior shower hose leaks
Post by: runningwriter on March 01, 2015, 02:46:56 PM
It leaks right where it connects to the shower facet.  Is there a way to tighten that connection?  It does not resemble a regular plumbing connection; at least none that I am familiar with.

It's still just a standard threaded shower hose connector. The part on the faucet has an odd offset, but when you unscrew the connector, you'll see it ends up being normal. Just tighten the connection, or take it apart and use a couple turns of teflon tape. I assume the connector on the faucet isn't cracked.

The female hose fitting is a standard 1/2" pipe. The male part on the shower valve assembly looks a bit weird, but it's also 1/2" IPS thread. The connector on the hose end should have a small washer which has a tendency to get lost so back off the knurled coupling and check for the washer.

Assuming the washer is in place and none of the plastic parts are broken, wrap the male side with several layers of Teflon plumber's tape and reassemble.  Sometimes a little help from a pair of Channel Locks or pliers can be applied to the female coupler if needed to stop a leak. Just remember you're dealing with Chinese plastic parts.

At some time you may want to add a Danco shutoff and replace the stiff OEM hose with a more flexible metal chrome hose on your way to replacing the handheld shower with an Oxygenics shower.
