I am a little embarrassed to tell this sad tale, but feel it necessary to warn y'all out there that failure to lock up your windows ( in my case the kitchen window ) will result in said window to sail off into some terrible place and cost you ( in this case $100 ) a whole lot of grief, especially ( in this case ) when a huge rainstorm was coming in right when it happened. Moral of this story......MAKE SURE ALL WINDOWS ARE IN THE LOCKED POSITION AS PART OF THE CHECK OFF LIST BEFORE TAKING OFF. I KNOW you all KNOW this. Happy Trails!

[font size="3"]Been there, done that, also the kitchen. I had to tape plastic sheeting over the window to drive home. When I called LL for the replacement window I got the strong impression I wasn't the first :(. Now on the check list.

I'm always forgetting stuff. Like to use paper checklist in airplanes and mental checklist for things like camping & boating. Once I start going through a mental checklist, don't want to stop until completed. Used to have FAA examiners intentionally talk to me during pre-flight & flight to distract me so I would miss checklist items.
I appreciate the reminder; that's not on our list yet.

Add your truly to the group of "forgot to latch the kitchen window". Great trip until I backed it into the driveway and found my kitchen window missing. Now for the question-where the heck do I get a replacement?
I join the club too but thankfully something made me pull over to double check the trailer only a few miles after leaving home. Nothing broke, twisted, or stretched - kitchen window was fine. Thinking about it now I think what made me stop was I hit a pothole. The small but mighty Camplite 11FDB has a rear door and the steel step likes to pop out when ever the trailer hits a big bump. Putting back the step I peered around the trailer and found the window open.
Leaving the window open is not as bad as leaving the toilet bowl valve open! That is REALLY stupid as I found out in >> [a href="http://www.designstop.com/2012/09/oh-shit.html"]"THE THETFORD INCIDENT OF 2012"[/a] <<. It was horrifying. 8-|

Turns out they are made by Dometic Sietz, Dometic's German affiliate. Apparently most Dometic dealers don't know about them, but with the attached Seitz order form, maybe you can find someone to purchase from.

[/p][/quote]This is potentially a very serious problem for those of us stuck with lousy local dealers. I really hope Camping World can handle parts for the products used on Camplites, like windows; that will be my only hope in the long run.
I would ask Don which Dometic dealer knows anything about Dometic Seitz German made windows. There are several in the UK, Germany and Australia when you Google it, but none in the US. I agree, ARRRRGH!!
It is now clear what has happened to LL. When they were independent they built a quality, all aluminum/composite unit and sometimes used unique parts, like the Seitz windows. Now that Thor owns the brand, they are cutting corners in the construction as well as customer service and parts sourcing. I will bet that window will be gone before too long, just like the aluminum roof.

I also hope non LL dealers like Camping World can order parts. However, that's entirely up to Thor as they can restrict their dealers however they choose. In an effort to get a window I sent an e-mail to [a href="mailto:customersupportcenter@Dometicusa.com"]customersupportcenter@Dometicusa.com[/a] to see if the window could be sourced from them directly. No response yet but will keep you all informed. I have a dealer locally but don't particularly like them or their service so they will be my last resort.
Is it possible to work with any dealer and then just have that dealer drop ship the item to you? If all you want to do is source a part why couldn't a dealer place the order and take payment, then have the item shipped to you as the individual vs the dealer's location? I have no idea if there would be a cost difference, I assume there would be some sort of inflation with the addition of a middle man. However it might be worth asking about the shipping if it saves a trip.

Thanks for the list Charlie. I see that you have the last item about stowing the outside thermometer. We just made that mistake last week when we came home from our most recent campout. Drove away with it still tucked under the trailer (but not secured). Got home before we realized it. $30 to buy a new outside sensor/transmitter. Aargh!!!

[/quote][font size="3"]One good result from LL's installation of the small breakaway battery. When I removed the battery I had this neat box left on the frame. That's where I keep the thermal sensor now. I just leave it there all the time. Works great and is out of the weather. [/font]
