Title: composting toilets for LL trailers
Post by: geo92128 on February 01, 2015, 05:12:10 PM
New member with a 21BHS on order, fully loaded with options except the underbody coating. We are told it will be ready in mid to late March 2015.
Questions:
1. Does anyone have any experience with composting toilets for LL trailers as you-tube videos indicate they are the way to go, no chemical, no smell, no water use, no black tank dumping/spill issues etc.
2. My wife Jan and I purchased a new Chevy Colorado with 7000 lbs towing capacity for the TV. So far it is a very good truck and basically everything one reads from hundreds of positive reviews is right on the money. Obviously time will tell.

Thanks MonteD

I can't help you with your question about the  composting toilet but welcome to the farm and congrats on your TT decision!

I don't know anything about composting toilets, either, other than to say "eeeeewwwwwwwwwww".

Good video discussing composting toilets for RV's. If you make it work in a camplite, I would love to hear about it. Proper toilet sizing will be the biggest challenge I would imagine. Composting toilets are fairly big.

Welcome and congrats on the CampLite on order!

This may not fit your application, when we order a new LivinLite TT or TH will have a Cassette Toilet installed without black water tank. LivinLite is already installing them in Truck Campers and Don @ LivinLite said they can install one in a trailer camper.

What do you see as an advantage of having a cassette toilet rather than the black tank and a toilet?

With the Cassette Toilet, an exterior door would be installed to remove the tank while outside. Camped at campgrounds without dump stations that have a vault or regular toilets, where the smaller cassette tank can be dumped. If camping at campgrounds with dump station, it's still easy to dump cassette tank at the dump station. Currently use a porta potti to prevent middle of the night pee trips to the campground restroom, since we don't like walking around campgrounds during the middle of night bumping into skunks and even had an alligator in our campsite, one night in SC  ???.

It's just our preference, can't say it's an advantage!

I'm sure all realize a cassette toilet is not a composting toilet. A properly operating and vented composting toilet can be a "good neighbor" with regard to odor (though not perfect and still requiring lots of maintenance/upkeep). I suspect a properly operating cassette toilet is still full-on stink.

Only reason we want a Cassette Toilet in a future camper is to replace the Porta-Potti currently used in our camper without built in toilet, to prevent middle of the night pee trips to the Campground restroom. Don't plan to use it for anything else. Again, just personal preference. Trailmanor, LiL Snoozy, LivinLite truck campers, and Bowlus Road Chief have Cassette Toilets available.

Our Lil Snoozy had a Thetford cassette in it. It helped sell the trailer to us, and we liked it a lot. Very easy to use/empty/clean; very well made ( although we did burst a water hose in it due to NOT using a pressure reducer on our supply hose). There are NO smell/venting issues with these units. And NO black hose to mess with. Highly recommended.

How about an incinerator toilet?  Go big or go home?  :)
