Title: finally went on a trip with my Axxess 22
Post by: gerry on January 23, 2015, 12:27:06 AM
and I have to say the trip made the purchase worthwhile!!  I am very pleased with the trailer......I bought it new in November........put two large motorcycles in it.......the only mod I did was a foam tile floor...bought them from Sam's Club.......around $20 for eight tiles.....easy to apply and cut into shape.......the floor was comfortable and warm with them in place.   I stayed at a friend's place in Sarasota....had water and electric ( house not 30 amp) .....did not need the air conditioning so no big deal!  I kept the gray open and drained it behind the trailer with a hose......the ground is sand.....no big deal!!  I slept in the queen bed...very comfortable.......just used the stock mattress......my bud slept on the sofa...he said it was very comfortable.....on night we had another guy show up...he slept on the benches.....and he said it was very comfortable!!  with all three in sleeping mode, there still was an isle....good thing cause I often get up in the middle of the night to relieve myself.

we did minimal cooking.....did have coffee every morning.....I used a foldable pot, which held just over 4 cups.....and poured the hot water into a drip coffee pot.  the shower was very nice...I am 6'3, 220 lbs and fit well.......there is lots of room for storage.....I had a previous Class A motorhome, so I had lots of stuff stored.......and most of it fit in this one!

GORGEOUS!  Hearing back from your travels and seeing your 'Axx' sure whets our appetite.   We're still waiting on our Axx, fridge getting replaced.  Any issues with the trailer?  How did your Ram handle towing it?  What kind of mileage did you get and what, if any, WD hitch do you use?  Now, it's 'Wife' here with all the questions, and perhaps this is the dumbest, but is your Ram 1500 an EcoDiesel?  We're anxious to find out how it handled since it sounds like we may have the same TV.  The forum for the Ram ED sure is giving its towing capabilities high marks.  Anxious to hear more!!

The Axxess, it goes without saying, looks like nothing else on the road.  Did you notice other drivers staring? They stare because it is one fine looking trailer, yes, but could it be that all the attention is also folks checking themselves out in that incredible mirror finish?  Speaking of finish, do you know how best to care for the exterior?  Do you have protection for it when not in use?

Tell us more, we want more.....please!  Hope you don't mind us Axx'ing!  :)

the one question I didn't answer is the mileage....I averaged 11-12 mpg, which sounds low, but compared to other vehicles, not so......the truck rode like it was barely pulling anything.....and once I got the hitch tuned in, felt that way.....I will tell you that I can't wait to go on another trip.......early March to Daytona Bike week!!

Wheel chocks? How did you secure the chocks?
there are six tie down spots on the floor of the trailer.......we just strapped the bikes down......no chocks......I do use two 2x6's taped together under the frame to prevent damage to the forks.  My bike is a VTX 1300R with a fairing and hard bags, and the other bike was a HD Ultra.

Wow, no chock. That's brave. I think I would be afraid not to use one. I like the chock especially when it holds the bike up by itself, so I can tie it down.
I put the kickstand down and put the straps on one at a time........very easy......like I said, I use two 2x6's under the bike to limit the excursion on the forks.....that helps to hold down the bike as well........the problem with chocks is that you have to secure them and I don't want to be limited to one location......suppose I only take one bike, or my Spyder.......with the appropriate strapping, the bike holds well.   we checked the bikes at every stop.....there was no movement at all.
Yea, in my first toy hauler I mounted chocks to the floor. Never again will I do that. Now I just put a rubber mat down. Place the chock atop the rubber mat. Put bike into chock. Tie down bike.  When I get to where I'm going, I pick the chock up, and put it in the truck bed. Easy and don't have to worry. I can put the chock wherever I want because it's not bolted or tied down.

I've been wondering if a free floating chock would work.......frankly, with the rubber flooring, I believe the bikes are very stable without a chock.
