Title: Working on Roof
Post by: kycamper on October 29, 2014, 11:49:07 PM
I was wondering if anyone with a 21 RBS has done work on the roof, i.e. install vent covers or covering the trailer. If so, I imagine it is a good idea to place 3/4" plywood spanning a few roof supports, so as not to damage (dent) the skin.
Any ideas on a safe proceedure for this fat boy??

I'm 6' 220lbs and have crawled around without issue. Haven't gone as far as standing, but on hands and knees it seems to be fine.

Great. Thanks. I had asked the factory, before we bought our trailer if I could install a ladder on the back for roof access. They said "no" and were concerned that crawling around the roof might cause dents. I wondered how they installed a/c, vents. antenna etc., but figured they must have scaffold for that kind of work.

There are definitely no dents on my roof from walking on it.  If it is sunny and warm, the roof gets HOT.  I brought up a sheet of plywood to kneel on so I didn't burn myself.

I think you'd be happier with just a couple 4' long 1x6's laid lengthwise to step/kneel on. A sheet of plywood will always cover up an area you want to get to. At least that's the way it always works for me, no matter what I'm working on. And I appreciate gizmos like these more as I age.
