Title: North Carolina to Wyoming Trip
Post by: spot1 on October 26, 2014, 07:03:53 PM
We decided to go on a 23 night camping trip from North Carolina to Wyoming. Left home on September 3 and got back September 26. The trip was around 4100 miles. We put 5700 miles on the TV.

We camp with a 2010 LivinLite CampLite 11 and 2013 Nissan Frontier crew cab TV. Did not know how the trip would go with two people in this size camper. Almost sold the camper this summer, but made some modifications and decided to keep it. The camper rig performed great for us.

First stop was Cove Lake SP Tenn, they have a very nice BBQ restaurant in the SP, we stayed here on the return trip, too:

Thanks!

It was our first trip to Yellowstone & Grand Tetons. We hope to make several trips out west and September works well for us. Enjoy documenting trips with a point & shoot camera. Our goal during this trip was to stay at as many State Park & Army Corps of Engineers Campgrounds possible.

Thanks for sharing!!  Great Pictures.

Did you plan your trip ahead of time and make lots of reservations, or did free style it?  I like the idea you have of hitting as many state parks as possible.  I have never stayed at an Army Corp. campground before.

Thanks,

Our goal was to stay at as many State Parks & ACE campgrounds as possible. We made reservations for Friday & Saturday night stays and at Buffalo Bill SP in Wyoming. Planned the route, but no reservations for other nights gave us flexibility to pick & choose campgrounds along the way and to change the route, if needed. When it looked like snow in Wyoming, we changed plans and found a RV park in Cody with laundry room. Before we left Buffalo Bill SP found another laundry in Cody that washed & folded our clothes, charged by the pound. My Wife was very happy about that find. Took her to lunch while the clothes were being taken care of!

ACOE parks normally are low cost & nice, but are not shown on our 2015 Rand McNally road atlas. I use this link to find where their parks are located:

http://corpslakes.usace.army.mil/visitors/camping.cfm

We did not know how the trip was going to work out with our 11' TT, but were pleasantly surprised how nicely that size TT worked for us. We could fit into the smallest site at any campground and since we were out exploring daily when not traveling, only used the TT to sleep in & have breakfast & coffee in the morning.

Our next cross country trip will be to the Canadian Rockies later this year!

Sounds like quite the adventure! We will certainly check out ACOE campgrounds. We have seen some on the Allstays app when we travel. The app is great-- if you've not used it before, you should definitely check it out: http://www.allstays.com/Campgrounds/

Thanks again for sharing your expertise.

Nice and thanks for sharing.  I am planning a Yellowstone/Teton trip in June.  How did staying at B B. Sp work logistically?

It's a long day round trip from BB to see Grand Tetons, but worked fine for Yellowstone. Will stay @ BB state park next time, too. We stayed @ BB North Fork CG and reserved an electric site (reservations can be made thru 9/15). The showers cost 75 cents. Next time will go for another day trip from BB to Bear Tooth Pass.

We want to do the Rockies eventually, but our trip this year is too early so we're skirting to the south to get around them.

When camping local, camp @ Hunting Island SP SC, Lake Wateree SP SC, South Mountains SP NC, Stone Mountain SP NC, Bandits Roost NC (ACE) and Mount Pisgah NC on the Blue Ridge Parkway when it's hot in the lower elevations. Open to camping @ other campgrounds in N&S Carolina, too.

Will be heading out west probably after your trip this year.
