Title: New in New Mexico
Post by: nmken on October 17, 2014, 09:14:30 PM
We finally have our trailer - I was able to pick it up at the dealer and haul it back to New Mexico - a 7 day round trip.  The trailer has been great, with 0 problems identified.    Hauling with our 4runner was more challenging than I had expected - needed to keep it around 60 for a stable drive vs 65.  Other than that we are really happy with our trailer and Livinlite's operation.  We had the chance to walk through the factory and see the trailers in construction.  Looking at their methods of construction make me feel even better about the quality of the trailer.

We're still busy getting our new trailer ready for a trip this weekend - late October is chancy for weather but we're committed!  So far the only issue we've run into is a sticky fantastic vent switch that keeps one fan from running without a little tap.

You have the 2 person dinette and set up with The king bed. It looks very cozy. Very nice

[p]We finished our first 'big' project:  Rear deck tiedowns!  Subaruwx suggested these L track rails - I'm really happy with the result although I went through several drill bits, screw driver bits and a few chunks of skin to get it done.  I used 2 10 ft lengths of the track and although I don't think I needed it, I did coat all screws with blue Loctite.[/p]

Congrats on the beautiful 16TBS!

One question, what is the load capacity of the rear deck?

structurally the deck could hold a lot of weight.  But from a trailer balance perspective, everything on the deck ends up lightening the tongue.  So I'm planning to keep it to 100 lbs max - Honda generator and a cooler.

FYI I bought an inexpensive tongue scale and measured our tongue weight fully loaded - 400 lbs.  Given the risks of a poorly loaded trailer, this seems like an essential tool to me.

[/quote]That's a nice looking scale. Will probably invest in one!

Like the looks of your 16TBS dinette, too!

[p]We've completed our 2nd major project - installed a ksh marine generator box for our Honda 2000.  Pretty simple install as soon as I got over having to drill through the deck.[/p][p]

It looks great - but where does the license plate go?

Nice. Does the gen stay in the box while running?

The gen does stay in the box when its running - two side panels come off.  The back panel is where the license will go - when I finally get one....

Finished a third major project today - battery box for dual GC2 batteries from RV Armor.  The top slides off to the left and spacing is very tight with an over-tongue bike rack we'll be installing so I installed the box offset to one side to help getting the cover off.

Very nice box work! But don't "hide" your great mods in the new members thread????. Post your good stuff in the Camplite mods thread so we can all find them easier.

Moved inside for the winter - we completed the same sink upgrade that tinkertechie had done.  It's come out really well.

Hah... Spring starts in June I think here in the NW.  By then I want to have done the following:
- Add a Trimetric 2030RV Battery System Monitor
- Change out the battery - Convert to 2 6v Trojan T-105's
- Change out the slide-out switch to a key switch (4 year old!)
- Figure out the cabinet storage options

I'm going to spend some time on the Mod's section and see what else makes sense before getting started. I'll post everything when I am done. :).

10 helpful mod suggestions:

1) Rear view camera for backing up.
2) Side view cameras for watching the neighbors.
3) Macerating pump in the sewer.
4) Make the entire exterior surface out of flexible solar sheets.
5) Is that...an attic ?
6) Power stairs
7) Satellite TV receiver
8) (open)
9) Replace cooktop with a mini-range w/oven
10) Live fish well. Oh, wait. That's for the boat...nah, let's have one in the trailer, too.

I found the battery box manufacture.  The owner is awesome.  He'll paint the box any color you want - for a little extra.  Anyhow, http:/www.rvlockbox.com.  Working on the fish pond next.
