Title: Atwood furnace
Post by: ktnm8135 on September 28, 2014, 10:15:14 PM
Does anyone use the furnace provided with our trailers? I took mine out and installed a valve ( with a cap ) in its place. I plan to use the space for added storage. An electric ceramic heater should keep us toasty, and if needed, I have an adapter that I can attach to the valve and use my buddy heater. I mounted the valve for easy access.

I have definitely used the furnace. We live in Connecticut and camp in NY, Mass and Vermont. In the morning when we wake up if the temps are chilly I turn on the furnace for a few minutes to warm us up. It doesn't take long to heat up a 16' cabin with that heater. Much better than a radiant one.

[/quote]I use it when we don't have hookups. Otherwise I use an electric space heater. So far we still have an abundance of storage, so it's more valuable to me as a heater than as more storage space. Wouldn't the buddy heater take up most of the space in there anyways? You're probably already aware of it, but if you use a buddy heater you'll need to open a window to keep it from burning up all your oxygen. The Atwood uses outside air for combustion, so you could leave the windows closed if you wanted to.

I haven't had the chance to use my furnace yet.   I wish it was capable of electric or gas as I would prefer to use the campgrounds electric than my own propane.   I don't know if such a RV furnace exists?   I picked up a small fan/heater combo for 12.49 at HD the other day.   We may have a chance to try it out this coming weekend if it is cool enough.   If it gets too cold I will fire up the furnace, but otherwise I will try my portable heater to take the edge off if needed.

Turned on the furnace this morning, it worked good! It was cold and it took the chill off. Only used it for about 15 min.

So far, the only need for heating has been in the wee hours or early morning. As our camping has always involve at least 20 amp service, we've been very happy with a small ceramic heater. 1000W heats us up in about 20 minutes.

One of these days I guess I should fire up the propane furnace, just to know it works in the off chance we boondock.

It doesn't get cold here, and most of our winter camping will be at the beach. I was just wondering if they worked well. I can reinstall it if we ever sell, but I don't think that will happen cause we're really diggin this camper. Ready for some fall flounder fishing.

Our LL has no propane so no furnace.  When would one use the heat strip that is on the AC?  I'll have to pick up a ceramic heater for a trip to FL this November.
