Title: Any Problems?
Post by: djsamuel on March 13, 2014, 10:31:23 PM
I think the Camplites are terrific trailers; but everything can have a problem eventually.  If people post what problems have occurred, it may spur others to check things out before they become big problems.

The only issue I had with our 21BHS was a water leak inside where the public water connection is.  I turned on the water at the campsite and saw water dripping onto the ground, coming from inside the trailer.  Made me glad there was no wood!.  All that was wrong was the threaded connection where the trailer plumbing hooks to the public water inlet had loosened up.  Reaching in and hand tightening it took care of the leak and we had no problems the rest of the trip.  I went around and checked all of the fittings.  Some where fairly loose, and I was careful not to overtighten them.  No problems since then.

Good to know. Pointers like this should be put in a sticky for delivery inspection.

Wanted to add an issue that developed with our 21BHS during our last trip.  We towed the camper to the campground in a heavy rain.  It was a short tow, less than 30 miles to Disney's Fort Wilderness Campground.  We dropped the camper off and then unhooked the truck and took my sister in law back to her hotel.  We had family down for our daughter's wedding at Disney.  The stay at Fort Wilderness was for my wife and I to unwind a bit now that everything was done.

When we got back to the trailer, my wife noticed that the pillows that were placed on the bed prior to towing, were damp.  We looked around and could see no sign of water entry.  The pillows were pretty much directly below the passenger side ceiling light over the queen bed; but there was absolutely no sign of water around the light or the ceiling vent. It was very possible that as my sister and law and my wife were loading the camper in the rain (while I was hooking up the truck), that somebody placed a wet item on the pillows.  However, I still wanted to examine the trailer, where I found two issues.

First, I noticed that the bead of caulking along the seam partway down the sloping front of the trailer was missing about a foot  of caulking, approximately in line with where the leak was.  I went to Camping World and purchased GeoCel ProFlex RV caulking.  I removed all of the old caulk along th front.  It appeared to be silicone caulking, so I made sure I cleaned all of that out.  Silicone does not hold up well in the sun and heat of Florida.  I replaced the cauling and am very impressed with the GeoCel caulk.

Then yesterday, we had a very heavy rain storm, along with 50MPH winds.  So I went out to check the camper.  The passenger side window, next to the bed, had water on the inside, and on the floor.  The location was also pretty much in line with where the pillows got wet.  As I looked I could see that the water was coming down behind the box that holds the TV power pack and amplifier.  I got a ladder and took a look outside.  The joint between the metal corner "moulding" along the roof and the aluminum piece that anchors the end of the awning was also caulked with silicone, and it had failed right above a screw that was in line with where the water was dripping in.  So I once again removed all of the silicone and replaced it with the GeoCel caulk.  I believe this was the issue, at least I sure hope it is.

In any case, keep an eye on then caulking on the trailer.  Fortunately, there is no wood, but you still want to prevent leaks.

Our fridge suddenly stopped working, with either propane or electricity.  It must not be getting power because there's no light and it isn't cold.

Anyone else have this problem?

If it's turned off neither the inside light nor the display will light. If that checks out there is a fuse for the 12V in the fuse panel. Check each one until you find the fridge fuse and check it for continuity. Problem is, if it's blown, most fuses blow for a reason.

Yeah, already checked both those things.  Thanks.  At least in the meantime, we can put ice in it and use it like a cooler, but it's only a year old and worked fine up until now.

Hmmm. I assume the digital display is dark also? Sounds like it's voltmeter troubleshooting time. There are additional inline fuses in the rear (outside) compartment, but I'd look for a loose or broken power connection first. It really does sound like no power.

It says "EO" which, apparently is some kind of error message.  Husband did poke around in the outside panel, and will poke some more now that it's home where more tools are handy.  Thanks.

E0 is means the control panel (where you're pushing the button) can't communicate with the rest of the fridge. Probably a loose connection.

The presence of EO means 12V power is getting to the fridge. The least reliable components in electronic assemblies are connectors so start there if you can find them. Turn off all power to the fridge before you start. Disconnect the battery if you're not sure. Unseat and reseat any connectors you can get to. I'm traveling, but TinkeringTechie may be able to point you in a direction. Otherwise an RV shop can help. Could be anything from a bad/loose connector to a faulty control board.

The E0 I had was due to a low voltage (Brown Out) condition.  I had to disconnect all power to the fridge via the outside maintenance door.
This hard reboots it.  I can repeat the condition easily  when I run shore power on an extension cord (too long).  I installed a hefty  shorter extension cord to my shore power and the problem was resolved.
