Title: New Forum: aluminiumcamperforum.com
Post by: thedusty on December 21, 2016, 02:34:20 PM
Just in case others haven't seen, a lot of the members are moving to this new forum since LivinLite is no longer helping pay to support this current one.  LivinLite is also taking back the domain name from the Mod who runs the site.  It's all rather shitty - pardon my French.  But oh well...  Here's the new forum:

http://aluminiumcamperforum.com

From what I understand, this current forum will essentially fade to black.  If I have anything wrong, someone please correct me...

As a newbie to camping and travel trailers, this forum has helped me tremendously.  There were so many simple things I just didn't know about having never dealt with any of this.  We bought our trailer in Feb and did some camping right away up until the Texas heat stopped us.  Then out of the blue we moved cross country from Texas to Seattle...and got very busy.  I've only barely started diving into our trailer and learning about it to the degree many of the owners here know them.

All the modifications and work you guys have done to make these trailers truly great is amazing.  I'm beyond sad this knowledge will fade from this forum.  I look forward to hopefully catching up on the NEW forum once I have time to refocus on camping and the travel trailer.

I sure hope that someone with the technical ability will figure out how to copy/paste all these posts. Some of them are INVALUABLE to Livin Lite owners....me being one. I have learned so much here and enjoyed the feedback from members. We simply cannot lose this information. Another BALCK EYE for Thor. Has any rv company done better after they take over? I know there are a lot of Airstream owners out there that have " issues". And they own so many other companies. Please, someone, save these posts!!!!Thanks

I am not the most "savvy" guy when it comes to the computer stuff. There are lots of previous posts, life my $8 step fix, that I would like to copy/paste. I just tried, unsuccessfully, to copy/paste my " for sale ad there, and upload some pictures of my trailer, with no luck. Wasted time. Tried TWICE!!! Do you check BOTH sites now? I check this one a few times a day, just for grins!  8-)  8-)  8-)  Happy Trails.......

i wouldn't bother checking BOTH sites.

This site will be downside-up before the sparkly ball drops.

Really sad to see this forum ending.   I have learned so much.... and had some good laughs.   I ended up going the Class C  route....a Dynamax Isata 3..... and I can attest that quality construction is absent on $90,000 rigs. We enjoy it, but fewer trips to the dealer service department would have been nice.  But all the info on black tanks, leveling (a really complex process with a Class C without automatic levelers), electrical, appliances, the list goes on, has been really helpful.     (not to worry; I have plenty of 'tow vehicle')    Thanks to everyone who contributed to this wonderful site.   Please check out the state parks in Mn.... we have some truly lovely campgrounds.  And Anoka County, north of the Twin Cities, has really nice campgrounds.   (don't tell anyone else)    Tare care, and to para-phrase European travel guru Rick Steves, Keep on Camping.

Anyone else have trouble reading ACF WITHOUT logging in? Those of us who check forums several times a day would like not to have to log in if we don't have anything to say. I get an error message saying "FORBIDDEN....." when I try to read any posts. However, it's very erratic.....sometimes it works fine.

I agree, the error that you report shouldn't happen. But why don't you stay logged in all of the time? I do and direct my browser to the "Recent Unread Posts" page, read any new ones of interest and leave. Works fine for me.

The "Forbidden!" thing happened to me, just now, trying to log into ACF, but then came back here and tried the link posted here and it worked.  Strange, but then I think I also botched up the spelling of 'aluminium' without knowing, which caused time-out problems...    :P

As of Yesterday morning, 24 Dec, I'm getting no response from ACF. Browser times out waiting.  Looks like the server is down. Anyone else experiencing this?

I accessed ACF 3-4 times yesterday just fine and again just now. Are you sure that you are spelling it right ;-).

#1. So, the wonders of hardware and operating systems.

#2. I could connect via WiFi but not via my iPhone on ATT or using the
iPhone as a hot spot. Hmmmm. When in doubt, reboot. I rebooted then
iPhone and all is well.

See #1.

The plot thickens. After rebooting the iPhone I get good connection to ACF and it's content. I also get good connection using the iPhone as a hotspot to a laptop with Internet Explorer. Using the same iPhone hotspot and laptop but Firefox, I get connection to the ACF home page but any content brings up the FORBIDDEN error. In the past this error has been intermittent. See attached. Same error occurs when connected via WiFi with the same laptop (no ATT iPhone in the loop) and all virus scanners off. The problem appears to be between Firefox and the forum SW. I'll keep trying.

I just did some research on this and found a suggested solution that I just implemented. Let me know if this fix it

Dec 26 @0700eastern: No change. Same error message when trying to read anything. This problem is recent because I have always been able to read messages and look at your statistics since you began the forum. I've just seen this error in the last month or so.

Edit: No problems with an iPad. Seems to be just Firefox, but Firefox has always worked for me.

Second Edit @ 0728: Just started working on Firefox! This is very intermittent.

Now this is really getting baffling. @ 0810 Eastern: If I open a Firefox window and try to read content I get the FORBIDDEN message. If I leave the window open and open a second window it works fine. I've checked all Firefox settings I can find for blocked, permissions, etc and can't find anything obvious. Some really mysterious interaction between Firefox and the forum server software. Maybe Paul has a "CharlieM" filter on the site  ;) .

Charliem, just to be able to investigate this, can you try registering on the forum and stay login all the time? Just to see if this issue only happens to guest users. That way we will know if this is because you are guest it happens or if it's something wrong on your side.

Paul and Charlie:

FWIW I am able to access ACF from either Firefox (my standard), Edge or Internet Explorer from a Win 10 laptop. It works as guest or logged in all of the time.

Don't know what the problem is. I'm using ATT hotspot now; be home shortly and can work more at it. Firefox works fine everywhere else but it keeps getting updated, as does forum software, and it's a wonder any of it ever works.

OK folks. I finally got it working with FireFox. Many hours later and having tried lots of things including reinstalling FF it seems the problem was the browser was going to some strange place on ACF and picking up an error code.

The URL must be exactly:  "http://aluminiumcamperforum.com/"    without the quotes.

See you there when this one dies, probably at month end.
