Title: Bathroom Light Fixture - How do I get the cover off?
Post by: djsamuel on October 12, 2016, 12:44:40 PM
The subject says it all.  How do I get the cover off the light fixture in the bathroom without breaking it?  I see the tabs, and it looks like the silver part has to come off first, but it doesn't seem to want to budge.

Why do they make these things so complicated?

Never mind, I figured it out.  You have to pry off the chrome cover, and then there are 4 Phillips head screws holding the clear lens in place.  Just remove the 4 screws and the lens comes off.

I have been thinking about removing the cover and doing something to the lens to keep it from being so bright. Thanks for posting this. I will have to do this myself, because my husband says his honey do list is too long now that we will be moving to Florida in November.

Once I get the lens off, does anyone have a suggestion about what sort of paint I could get to tone down the bright light? I am thinking about a shade of pink...

[/quote]Leslie,

I removed the old bulb and replaced it with an LED bulb that was really meant to fit in the ceiling lights (921).  I just straightened out the leads and it fit right into the socket.  It is nowhere near as bright.  That original bulb was really bright, and it gets really hot in a short time (as I found out today).

Okay! I have already replaced one of the lights in the ceiling because the light is just too bright. I think I can do this! (I have no mechanical ability at all. When I was in school, boys took shop while girls took cooking classes. I am learning now the HARD way.)

Check out this post. I painted the lens on my porch light yellow to take the edge off. Link to paint inside...

I used black tape over the part of the porch light that shines out, leaving only the part that shines down. Helped a lot and I'm sure the neighbors appreciate it.

Also, I added a dimmer to each of the lights over the beds. Super great improvement to be able to adjust brightness there I'm going to do the bathroom light next for sure, then one of the living area lights so we can have a light on that isn't super bright while watching TV or using our iPads.

keena, I checked out the paint you used. I think the smokey color might work.

What dimmer did you use in your 16TBS?
