Title: Disinfecting fresh water tank
Post by: rkreycik on July 26, 2016, 01:34:12 AM
We're newbies to camping trailers and were wondering how often to disinfect the fresh water tank on our 13BHB.  I've heard to use bleach.  Anyone find a less toxic method of disinfecting?  We have chemical sensitivities and prefer to avoid chlorine.

Thanks!

I don't know of any way to effectively sanitize without some sort of chemical.

The germs are very sensitive to bleach. That's why it works.

It is standard practice for wells and city water as well.

I suppose you could use iodine.

Thanks for these thoughts!  How often do you guys disinfect your tanks, just out of curiosity?

I do it once a year, when I de-winterize. I always do a couple cycles of empty/refill to flush out the tank before each trip though.
