Title: Cold Quelled Camping
Post by: daplumbr on May 17, 2016, 04:06:01 PM
We had a great first trip of 2016 last weekend. At least it started great. All systems made it through the winter and we had a nice camping spot right on Lake Huron. The sunset out over the lake the first night was spectacular. Even our first day of bird-watching was great as we had good views of many old friends. However, the weather didn't cooperate as the days went by and when we woke to cold, driving rain, a stiff wind off the lake, a freeze warning for the next 2 nights, and snow/sleet mixed in the rain, we retreated to live to fight another day. We had planned to go even further north up the lake for another several nights, but it didn't seem wise to just tough it out and worry about freezing our camper's water and ourselves. It snowed on us going home, helping to confirm the decision to bail out. I've still got plans in the back of my mind to permanently protect the pipes from freezing, but that's a long-term project. We are really looking forward to heading out again. My favorite recent mod is the larger handle by the door. It makes it much safer to get in and out, especially while holding a dog leash.
