Title: Screen door?
Post by: debiski on February 22, 2016, 10:24:21 AM
I thought I saw a thread on here about installing one of those magnetic closing screen doors on a QS 8 a while back but I can't find it. I bought one of these screens and customized the size to fit the doorway but now can't figure out how to hang it. I originally planned on using sticky backed velcro but as soon as it gets warm it sides right off the canvas. I do NOT want to put any holes in the canvas...does anyone have any suggestions on how to hang things from the inside of the canvas?

Without stitching I think glue is about the only other viable alternative. I like this stuff [a href="http://amzn.to/1RiC4C3"]Goop RV Adhesive[/a]. Its UV stable, stays flexible even after curing, and works well with fabric among other materials. There are other similar adhesives around as well but the biggest thing in my opinion is to make sure it stays flexible.

I've used this stuff to add a patch/reinforcing pieces to my canvas where I noticed what appeared to be a weak spot. This has held up well and has the added benefit of keeping the patch waterproof.
Perhaps you could use this to add the velcro to the doorway so that it won't fall off in the heat.

Thanks Sean! I'm going to give it a try.

This is one of my to do projects. I think I have an idea that might work. Take the top of magic mesh and wrap it around a dowel rod to the length desired. So now you should have mesh hanging down from rod.   Then use the Velcro strips already hanging from the quicksilver door to hold the rod that is holding the mesh. I would use some Velcro sticky strips for the sides.

This might not work, but I like its simplicity and how easy it would be to take down and put up.

Tried the magic mesh out for the first time. I didn't have a dowl rod handy so I tried industrial Velcro. The Velcro had a hard time sticking to the underside tent material. Then I had thought looking at that flap that runs along the roof. Clips work just fine.

I think it will do a good job of keeping the majority of bugs out while keeping mileage low on the zipper.

After playing with it for a while I think a single piece of mesh would work just as well. It was just as easy to just pushing mesh to side compared to going through it.
