Title: One side of qs10 for privy?
Post by: catmanriff on November 14, 2015, 12:15:29 AM
My wife and I take one bed. I thought about getting A Thetford or similar toilet, putting up the privacy curtain, creating a private restroom area on the other side bed area. Thoughts?

I know, not a fun topic. My wife needs an option inside the QS if we are to go anywhere without full facilities1

We (my first wife and I) once took a train from Atlanta, GA to Lunchbag, VA. Paid extra for a compartment with a crapper in it since it was overnight.

A) The equipment was "hidden" under a seat cushion. We found that out after sitting on the cushion for 2 hours.

B) The was no curtain, partition, or loudspeakers playing Wagner at ludicrous volume to provide the illusion of ignorance or otherwise baffle the senses. We settled for an arrangement where when she wanted to use the potty, I went for a stroll on the train, and when I wanted to us the potty, I went to the public crapper on the next car.

c) Which was everything you would expect from the phrase "public crapper on a train".

4) The Only Reason to go to Lunchbag, VA is that it provides a plausible excuse that allows you to get the hell out of Atlanta, GA. This was before Atlanta, GA became the hotbed of zombie activity that it is today. Which is actually an improvement, come to think of it. Grant had the right idear.

6) If you are "dry camping" it means you have selected a campground without hookups, and presumably without restroom/shower facilities. The best you could hope for in such a location is what the State of Oregon parks system calls "pit toilets" which involve digging a hole and building a concrete bunker over the top. It's worse than it sounds. It's worse than nothing at all, actually. Such an arrangement calls for drastic measures.

D) If your current wife refuses to venture "where the wild things are" and insists that you be elsewhere at the penultimate moment, you pretty much have two options: upgrade the trailer, or upgrade the wife. Both are expensive. One at least involves resale value.

E) Oh, a third option involves 2 words. You might want to write them down if you don't have enough money for either upgrade, or if you have too much money for the second to be palatable. Here they are: "Yes, Dear". The whole tent trailer is hers when she needs it. You, on the other hand, get the whole outdoors.

or get a add-a-room like what I have (screen room etc) or use those 10x10 popup tents, get ones with sides

put em in front of your camper, and put the thetford there - and in the 10x10 you could also put down some of those popular camping carpets (I know not so great to say carpet and bathroom) but makes a great difference for us kids and parents - kids take shoes off and they actually hang in the screen room (i have privacy curtains too) I tell kids put their pants on in the screen room, as those darn kids JUMP UP AND DOWN to put pants on!! why can't they put one leg then another ?! that really rocks the camper :)

I think the bunk is less than ideal for rigging up some sort of bathroom. I cant imagine there is enough vertical head room to move around, let alone sit comfortably on even a short toilet.
I'm more in line with @clyde on this one. I've thought about the possibility of having an outside "bathroom". My first thought is to get something like this [a href="http://amzn.to/1MX0fRp"]pop up shower tent[/a]. Then I figure I could use it for showering but I could also have one of these kind of [a href="http://amzn.to/1MX08oU"]camp toliet[/a]. The problem I have is two fold. 1. I honestly dont want to be dealing with such a s___y situation. 2. Anywhere that doesnt have a bathroom facility probably wont have a dump station either, so then what would you do when the toilet is full???

I camp with four ladies with my 10.0 and the inside potty is a must. We put the porta potty between the wheel well and the sink. The sink offers privacy on one side and we hang a curtain from the bars above to offer privacy from the other. No curtain in the front. However, we have rigged a hula hoop with curtains to the bars above to get total privacy.
Also, we only use this for middle of the night visits.

pinstriper. Hah, I'm going with choice E!

Sean, yea, the popup shower tent idea is good. Thanks.

clyde, I do have a 10 x 10 EZ up. Checking on sides for it.

kybrowns, that could work too. Create a private area.

It won't contain "the sound of music" any worse than your QS 10's walls, but it does get the mess and aromas outside your tent. It also makes it easier to gain more illusion of privacy from your tentmates, in exchange for less illusion of privacy from the denizens of the next site over.

I do wonder about how the bears will treat it - an attractant or repellent ?

Also, pubic service announcement for all of ya - do NOT let your first wife catch you referring to her that way while she is also your current wife.

I know that NOW...

For dispersed camp grounds we use a Treker privacy tent which we also use as the shower.

do you set the portable toilet out when it transforms to shower?

The Treker privacy tent we use as a restroom and shower is set up in the following manner. For showers we use a Pahque shower pan to collect the water, we use a Camp Chef stove to heat the water in a Camp Chef Hot pot the water is transferred into a plastic bucket (The Camp Chef Hot pot has a faucet) and the bucket is placed on a small folding table outside the Treker privacy tent. A Zodi shower pump is used to take a shower with. When used as a restroom the toilet is placed in the privacy tent.
